9:29: Shots were 17-11 for Buffalo just past the midway point of the game.

11:29: Buffalo continued to put on the pressure. Kane jammed at the puck and it slipped out of the glove of Brossoit and over the line. The play went to video review and it was ruled the whistle went before the puck went over the line.

11:39: Brossoit made a big stop with his pad after Evander Kane fired the puck on the doorstep.

12:46: Oilers fired three shots on the man advantage but could not score.

14:57: Kyle Okposo gets sent to the box and the Oilers head on the power play for the second time tonight.

FIRST PERIOD

1:14: Mark Letestu received two minutes for boarding to give the Sabres their third man advantage of the opening frame.

14:37: Edmonton registered its first shot on goal on a quick backhand from Connor McDavid that Sabres starting goaltender Robin Lehner had to be sharp on in laying down his left pad. Shots just past the five-minute mark were 2-1 Buffalo.

18:24: The first penalty of the game went to the Oilers after Eric Gryba received two minutes for slashing.

18:55: The horn went off when it looked from at least one angle like Benoit Pouliot scored on a backhand for the Sabres but the puck in fact just went off the side of the net.
