11:12: Detroit got its first shot of the period, a long shot by Mike Green that Talbot handled easily. To that point, the Oilers had a 6-0 shot advantage in the middle frame.
16:29: The third line had several chances, with Khaira and Yohann Auvitu both denied on successive opportunities. Jesse Puljujarvi looked to have an open net but fired the puck high and into the crowd. Shots were 11-11 almost four minutes into the second.

1:35: With 95 seconds to play in the opening frame, Niklas Kronwall’s shot from the side boards hit Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on its way to the net and then somehow found its way past Talbot to get the game back on even terms. | EDM 2, DET 2
5:43: Jujhar Khaira got called for tripping while the Red Wings buzzed around the Edmonton zone, giving the dangerous Detroit power play another chance.
8:55: Pat Maroon received a feed in front from Leon Draisaitl and made a nice deke play to slip the puck between the legs of Howard and give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. | EDM 2, DET 1
