5:35: Gibbons tipped a Butcher point shot in past Talbot to draw the Devils back within a pair. It was reviewed to see if Gibbons had a high stick but was eventually ruled a good goal. | EDM 5, NJ 3

6:42: Edmonton extended its lead to three goals as Leon Draisaitl put one in on the doorstep after an outstanding spin and pass from Connor McDavid. | EDM 5, NJ 2

9:24: Midway through the third, shots in the game are now 37-27 for Edmonton.

6:36: Maroon had a wide open net but fanned on his shot attempt.

10:11: Talbot made a great stop after a giveaway in the corner gave Drew Stafford a point-blank scoring chance. Stafford’s wrister was scooped up by the Oilers netminder.

13:41: Dalton Prout and Milan Lucic dropped the gloves at centre ice with fists flying from both combatants. Eventually they separated and both headed to the box for five.

14:20: Oilers convert on the power play! Drake Caggiula takes a feed through the crease from Connor McDavid and taps it into the open side before Devils netminder Cory Schneider could get across. | EDM 1, NJ 0

15:11: The first penalty of the game went to New Jersey after Dalton Prout received two minutes for interference.

15:19: Almost five minutes in, the only shot on goal so far has gone to the Oilers.
