5:30: Julian Melchiori received two minutes for hooking, resulting in the Oilers getting a power play in the latter half of the third and an opportunity to build on their lead.

8:14: Oilers blow the game open as after a Caleb Jones point shot, Brad Malone picks up the rebound in front and puts it in to extend the lead to three goals. | EDM 5, WPG 2

8:40: Shots on goal are 27-21 for Edmonton.

12:57: Puljujarvi continued his strong period, taking advantage of a bounce off the end boards to swoop in and bat home the puck over the left pad of Hutchinson. | EDM 4, WPG 2

13:31: Winnipeg looked to have tied the game once again but a penalty on the play to Brendan Lemieux for goaltender interference negated the goal. The Jets challenged the play.

17:39: Connor McDavid speeds into the Jets zone, drives the net and stretches his stick before slipping the puck under Hutchinson to net the go-ahead marker. | EDM 3, WPG 2

20:00: Period three starts now. Oilers shuffle up the lines a little with McDavid and Puljujarvi paired together on the top unit.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Shots were 19-16 after two.

18.3: After McDavid was toppled by Dustin Byfuglien, Maroon dropped the gloves with the Jets defenceman but it was a brief bout. So brief that Maroon was the only one to get a penalty and it was two minutes at that (for roughing).

3:24: Shots are 19-14 for Edmonton.

5:34: Malone comes out of the box and streaks towards the Jets goal. Before he has a chance to get a shot on net, he’s held up by Tucker Poolman and now it’s Edmonton’s turn with the power play.

7:52: With 35 seconds left in the McDavid penalty, Malone was sent off for tripping to give the Jets a brief two-man advantage.

9:51: Jets get more pressure in the Oilers end and it eventually results in another Oilers penalty. McDavid was sent off for hooking.

11:27: Winnipeg scores to pull even at 2-2. Lipon’s shot misses the net and hits the glass in behind Talbot. The puck then bounces back in front where Lipon pokes it in before Talbot can figure out where the puck is. | EDM 2, WPG 2

12:42: Brad Malone heads to the box, giving the Jets the power play.

13:30: McDavid sets up Patrick Russell with an excellent stretch pass. Russell just narrowly misses in-close on the redirection attempt.

16:20: Shots on goal are 14-7 for the Oilers.

17:00: Both penalties were killed off by Winnipeg.

18:59: Oilers get some heavy pressure down low and narrowly miss a tap-in on the stick of Maroon.

20:00: The Oilers start the second period on a two-man advantage for 1:07.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: At the buzzer the Jets took another penalty, this one by Adam Lowry. Shots on goal after 20 minutes were 11-7 for Edmonton.

53.0: Another penalty, this time to Winnipeg to give the Oilers their first power play longer than six seconds on the night. Mike Sgarbossa was sent off for slashing.

3:35: Six seconds into the Winnipeg two-man advantage, Nic Petan received two minutes for holding to turn it into a four-on-three.

3:41: After Jujhar Khaira crushed J.C. Lipon into the end boards, the two dropped the gloves for a very spirited fight in the corner of the Oilers zone. It was an even fight with a lot of punches thrown. Khaira also received two for boarding on the play in addition to a 10-minute misconduct.

4:44: Jesse Puljujarvi received a holding penalty to send Winnipeg back on the man advantage.

11:15: The Oilers grab their first lead of the night. Brad Malone scores from point-blank range, assisted by Russell and Kelly. | EDM 2, WPG 1

15:09: A backhand by Michael Spacek finds its way over the pad of Oilers starting goaltender Cam Talbot, putting the Jets on the board early. Brendan Lemieux did some good work in front of the net to jar the puck loose and over to Spacek. | WPG 1, EDM 0

16:14: Patrick Maroon’s slash on Kyle Connor sends the Jets to the game’s first power play.

17:19: Oilers have some pressure down low on the Jets, including a quick shot down low by Brad Malone who was denied by Winnipeg starting netminder Michael Hutchinson.

20:00: Tonight’s game is now underway.
