THIRD PERIOD

0.0: Oilers take this one 5-2. Maroon registers a goal and two assists, Letestu finishes with two goals, while Strome and McDavid record two points apiece.

1:15: Shinkaruk re-directs a point shot on the power play to make it 5-2. | EDM 5, CGY 2

3:54: Calgary gets on the board. Bartkowski lifts one short side on Pasquale to make it 5-1. | EDM 5, CGY 1

4:59: No question on this one; Strome gets his first as an Oiler on the power play! He swats a bouncing puck on the right side of the net and it goes in. Maroon and McDavid get the apples. Maroon now has three points while McDavid and Strome have two. | EDM 5, CGY 0

5:42: Oilers on a 5-on-3 power play after Bartkowski gets called for boarding.

9:59: Kulak is called for hooking.

14:31: Letestu two times! The veteran receives a cross-ice pass from Maroon then hammers a slapper top shelf on Rittich. Assists go to Maroon and Strome. | EDM 4, CGY 0

15:17: McDavid dances into the offensive zone but his pass is thwarted. Poirier now called for slashing and the Oilers go back to the power play.

18:37: Flames come out buzzing but Pasquale is up to the task.

20:00: The third period begins with the Oilers shorthanded for 1:50.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Flames think they score but the Stone’s tap-in comes just after the buzzer. Edmonton maintains the three-goal lead in the second period and continue out-shooting the Flames 24-16.

10.3: More penalties. Eric Gryba goes off for slashing.

3:25: The Flames’ penalty woes continue. Hunter Shinkaruk gets called for slashing.

5:32: McDavid finds Strome in-tight but the winger has no room to finish the play. Grayson Downing later gets a breakaway but he slides the puck to the side of the net. Oilers still up 3-0 and lead the shot count 23-14.

9:05: Kassian is called for holding. Oilers shorthanded. Goaltender swaps: Eddie Pasquale is now in net for the Oilers and David Rittich is in for Calgary.

11:18: Talbot! While shorthanded, Bennett finds a wide open Marek Hrivik in the Oilers zone. Hrivik barrels down on Talbot but the netminder shuts the door with two back-to-back right toe saves.

13:04: Brett Kulak’s clearing attempt is errant and goes out of play. He gets called for delay of game, putting the Oilers on a 5-on-3 advantage for 49 seconds.

14:15: Another Calgary penalty. Morgan Klimchuk gets two minutes for high-sticking.

14:44: The second unit contains the puck in the offensive zone for some time but Calgary answers with a few shorthanded opportunities of their own. Cam Talbot makes four saves to open the period.

18:19: Joseph Cramarossa gets called for slashing. That’s five penalties now for Calgary. Oilers to the PP.

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers exit the first period up by three, out-shooting the Flames 17-5.

1:43 McDavid encroaches from the half wall but his wrister is deflected out of play.

3:38: Now the Flames get called for too many men. It’ll be 4-on-4 hockey once again.

4:24: Mark Fayne gets called for slashing.

5:10: Nuuuuuuuge! The centre grabs a loose puck behind the Flames’ net then skates it out to the side of the goal. His pass attempt hits Michael Stone’s stick and is directed far-side on Lack. Oilers continue out-playing their Alberta rivals. | EDM 3, CGY 0

6:25: Emile Poirier hits the post on a wide-open net. Calgary stays off the scoresheet.

7:41: There’s been a goal change to the Oilers second marker. Maroon is now the goal scorer. Shots are 15-2 Oilers more than halfway through the first period.

11:51: Now Jones gets called for interference. The teams will play some 4-on-4 hockey.

12:17: Flames called again. Sam Bennett sits in the sin bin for slashing. Oilers will have a 5-on-3 for 12 seconds.

14:05: Flames called for a faceoff violation penalty. Ryan Lomberg sits in the box and the Oilers – who are up 10-1 in the shot department – go back to work on the man-advantage.

14:40: Power play marker! Maroon sweeps at a loose puck in the crease and it gets through Lack’s wickets. The goal was initially awarded to Ryan Strome. Darnell Nurse and McDavid get the assists. | EDM 2, CGY 0

15:57: McDavid, Ryan Strome and Patrick Maroon get close to making it 2-0. McDavid drops to Strome who wristed a shot that was deflected out by Eddie Lack. Maroon then hits the crossbar after another nice dish from the Oilers captain. Curtis Lazar then takes a slashing penalty.

17:47: Oilers open the scoring! Ethan Bear and Caleb Jones activate some offence from the blueline, firing point shot after point shot on net. Mark Letestu sits on the doorstep and slams a rebound home to give the Oilers an early lead. Jones and Iiro Pakarinen get the assists. | EDM 1, CGY 0

20:00: Connor McDavid wins the opening faceoff and the game is under way.
