2:21: Kirill Maksimov with the winner! Oilers win 5-4 in overtime to take the Young Stars Classic for the fourth year in a row.

3:18: Gambardella fires a backhander but Garteig makes the save.

5:00: Overtime is under way.

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: This one is going into 3-on-3 overtime. Shots are 46-25 Vancouver.

1:33: Canucks tie it up late. Matt Brassard throws a point shot on net and it gets past Starrett. | EDM 4, VAN 4

5:46: Gadjovich greases in a goal from inside the crease. Vancouver now within one. | EDM 4, VAN 3

6:38: Ethan Szypula accidentally high-sticks Lind and it gets called. Vancouver now on a 5-on-3.

6:57: Mantha gets an interference penalty. Vancouver to the power play.

7:55: Fisticuffs. Evan Polei and Stewart Mackenze go at it after Polei delivered a big open-ice hit to McKenzie. That’s the Oilers first fight of the tournament.

11:32: Starrett standing tall. He thwarts a Vancouver 2-on-1 and the whistle blows before any damage can be done.

12:51: Vancouver kills the penalty.

14:56: Canucks’ Kole lind gets two minutes for slashing.

15:29: Oilers carrying the play now. Shots are 30-19 Vancouver.

19:15: Oil score early! Garteig is welcomed into the game with an Ostap Safin short-side snipe from the below the left dot. Butcher gets his third assist of the night. | EDM 4, VAN 2

20:00: The third period has begun with Vancouver making a goalie change.  Michael Garteig is now in goal.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Oilers take the lead with a three-goal second period. They’ll have 36 seconds of power play time to open the third frame. Shots are 29-15 Vancouver.

1:24: Danny Moynihan takes a tripping penalty and the Oilers get a power play.

4:23: Oil take the lead! Yamamoto circle through the middle of the Canucks’ zone, then releases a wrist shot. Gambardella knocks in the rebound on the doorstep. That’s his second of the period as the top line gets the offence going. | EDM 3, VAN 2

6:51: Starrett continues to shine. Shots are 27-10 for Vancouver.

8:23: Another quick one! Paigin shows how hard he can shoot the biscuit, firing a one-timer past Thatcher to tie the game up. Austin Glover gets the assist. | EDM 2, VAN 2

10:16: Oilers gain life! Joe Gambardella and Butcher work a give-and-go from the left corner. Gambardella rips a one-timer past Thatcher to get the Oilers on the board. Butcher and Sahvan Khaira get the assists. | VAN 2, EDM 1

13:57: Jonah Gadjovich wins a race to a loose puck and busts in on a partial breakaway. He doesn’t get a shot off as Strand hooks him before he could. Strand goes to the box for hooking and the Canucks get another power play.

16:11: Two shorthanded chances come for the Oilers. One from a 2-on-1 by Kailer Yamamoto and Chad Butcher, then a breakaway for Butcher. Thatcher Demko makes a glove save on Butcher’s breakaway attempt.

19:33: Canucks come out flying. A wraparound gets behind Starrett but the netminder reaches back to get his trapper on it.

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Oilers get out-shot 16-4 as the first period comes to a close. Canucks will take a two-goal lead into the second period.

2:16: Carcone skates into the Oilers zone, gets past the Oilers defence then keeps, shoots and scores to make it 2-0 Canucks. That’s his second of the game. | VAN 2, EDM 0

3:33: Oilers move the puck around the Canucks’ zone. A Ziyat Paigin slapshot from the point is tipped out of play by Austin Glover.

7:21: Shots are 12-3 Vancouver.

9:18: Alexis D’Aoust rings one off the post but the puck remains out. Second post of the period for the Canucks.

11:35: Canucks throw everything on Starrett and a rebound eventually finds Carcone, who fires the puck above Starrett’s glove. Canucks get on board first. | VAN 1, EDM 0

14:42 Canucks forward Michael Carcone hits the crossbar. Edmonton winger Evan Polei later dishes a big hit on Brett Mckenzie.

15:53: Both penalties are killed. Back to even strength.

18:51: The Canucks get a breakaway shorthanded and Oilers goaltender Shane Starrett stretches out his pad to make a big save. Ryan Mantha gets called for slashing. 4-on-4 hockey now.

19:02: Oilers come out hard. They generate early pressure and Johny Corneil takes a hooking penalty.

20:00: Today’s game is under way.
