THIRD PERIOD

00.00: OILERS WIN THE SERIES! McDavid backhands the puck from the neutral zone into the empty Sharks net to give the Oilers a 3-1 lead and secures their first round victory. EDM 3, SJ 1

1:43: Less than two minutes left in this tight Game 6 as the Oilers ice the puck. Jones gets pulled for the extra man.

2:42: Joe Pavelski hits the crossbar and post off a backhand on the man advantage but the puck stays out. Oilers kill the penalty.

4:51: Edmonton gets called for too many men and the Sharks get their third power play of the night.

7:48: Sharks get within one. Marleau deposits the puck into the net after an in-tight feed from Couture. | EDM 2, SJ 1

8:41: Edmonton kills the penalty. They are now 2-for-2 shorthanded tonight.

11:09: Matt Benning gets his stick between Tomas Hertl’s feet and trips him. Oilers to the penalty kill again.

12:53: Eberle with a wrister from the top of the left circle. Jones makes the stop.

17:34: Sharks start the third with some jump as Joel Ward hits the post.

20:00: Puck dropped, game on.

SECOND PERIOD

00:00: Benoit Pouliot makes a tremendous defensive effort while on the kill. Logan Couture was at the side of the net and all alone with the puck until Pouliot got back to lift his stick and thwart the scoring chance. Then, Talbot made a big kick save on Joonas Donskoi. Oilers end the period up by a deuce.

3:13: Drake Caggiula is called for slashing Jannik Hansen. Edmonton down a man for the first time tonight.

4:37: Madness in front of the Oilers net but Talbot nixes it by finding the puck and covering it.

10:38: Marcus Sorensen with a dead-angle shot on the right side of Talbot that hits the post and clears away from the crease.

13:11: Talbot doing his part, stopping all four shots he’s faced in the middle frame so far.

18:10: BACK-TO-BACK BREAKAWAY GOALS! Anton Slepyshev picks up a botched Sharks pass at the Oilers blueline and skates in on a breakaway. He goes blocker side on Jones to give Edmonton a two-goal lead. | EDM 2, SJ 0

19:06: DR. DRAI! Sharks begin the period in the Oilers zone, but a blocked shot is scooped up by Adam Larsson, who feeds it up to a streaking Draisaitl. Draisaitl skates in on Jones alone as Justin Braun follows behind. He went 5-hole to score his first career playoff goal and give the Oilers the lead. | EDM 1, SJ 0

20:00: The second period is under way.

FIRST PERIOD

00:00: No goals after the first 20 minutes in Game 6. Edmonton outshoots San Jose 9-6 with Lucic, Eberle and McDavid registering two shots on goal each.

5:41: Another bouncing puck in front of the Sharks net eludes the Oilers. This time, Connor McDavid swings and misses. Joel Ward gets called for hooking and the Oilers go to the power play.

8:49: The Sharks bite back with a Patrick Marleau one-timer that is stopped by Talbot. Later in the sequence, a rebound in front of Martin Jones just skips over Patrick Maroon’s blade.

11:18: Oilers with all sorts of pressure early on. The second line of Milan Lucic, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle are buzzing as well as the Oilers top line.

17:25: Cam Talbot makes his first save of the night on Brent Burns.

20:00: Game 6 has begun.
