OVERTIME

1:45: David Desharnais received a pass in the slot and wired it high on Jones to win it for the Oilers! | EDM 4, SJ 3 (OT)

3:45: Sharks starting to pressure. Shots are 13-2 for the Oilers in OT.

8:37: Shots now 10-1 for Edmonton after a wrist shot from Thornton gives the Sharks their first of the extra frame.

10:14: Oilers have all seven shots in overtime so far as the midway point of the first OT period approaches.

11:33: Shots in OT are 4-0 for the Oilers.

12:44: Jones makes an unbelievable save on McDavid, who one-times a feed from Draisaitl on a two-on-one.

13:40: A shot from Nugent-Hopkins is stopped by Jones and trickles just wide of the net.

16:30: Draisaitl had a great chance in the slot and tried to go five hole on Jones but the Sharks netminder closed the door.

20:00: Overtime is underway.

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: This game is going to overtime!

2:46: David Desharnais skated in behind the Sharks net then backhanded a pass to Oscar Klefbom who wired a blast in to tie the game at 3-3. | EDM 3, SJ 3

5:01: Oilers had a handful of chances but could not convert. Shots now 32-25 for the home team.

7:31: Brenden Dillon gets called for tripping, putting the Oilers on the power play as they try and get the equalizer.

10:34: McDavid used his speed to generate some separation between himself and the Sharks defence but his shot just narrowly went wide of the San Jose net.

15:54: Shots are now 26-25 for the Oilers four minutes into the third.

20:00: Period three has begun.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Oilers outshot San Jose 13-5 in the second period and 26-21 in the game overall but still trailed by a goal.

1:27: The Oilers connected with 35 seconds to go in the Burns minor. Draisaitl found Mark Letestu at the left circle with a nice quick backhand pass. Letestu’s quick release went top shelf and Oilers were down by one. | SJ 3, EDM 2

2:52: With one second left in the Meier penalty, Brent Burns cleared the puck over the glass from his end and received two for delay of game. Result was another Oilers power play.

4:51: San Jose’s first penalty of the game went to Timo Meier for holding, giving the Oilers power play a chance to get them back within one.

7:00: McDavid absolutely levelled Marcus Sorensen in the neutral zone, sending the Sharks forward to the ice flat as a pancake.

9:04: Draisaitl and McDavid both poke away at the puck in the crease with Jones sprawled out making saves.

11:22: Two seconds after the penalty expired, the Sharks converted to extend their lead to 3-1. Schlemko’s shot from the point beat a screened Talbot for the goal. | SJ 3, EDM 1

13:24: Maroon gets sent to the box, giving the Sharks the game’s first power play.

14:40: Five minutes into the second period, shots are 18-15 for the Sharks.

4:08: A turnover leads to a two-on-one with Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. Thornton’s shot is stopped by Talbot but the puck slowly trickles in behind him and Marleau dives in to poke the puck across the line. | SJ 2, EDM 1

9:48: Mikkel Boedker swoops in and receives a backdoor pass from Chris Tierney, putting the puck into the open side and knotting the game up at 1-1. | EDM 1, SJ 1

11:28: Nurse rang another shot off the post less than three minutes later. This one along the ice, hitting the far post behind Jones.

14:10: Darnell Nurse wired a shot off the post as the Oilers continue to pour it on. Shots now 10-5 for Edmonton.

14:32: Patrick Maroon scooped up a rebound in front and swept it past Jones to get the Oilers on the board first. Caught on a line change, the goal came for Maroon with Draisaitl and McDavid on the ice with him. | EDM 1, SJ 0

16:55: With the crowd chanting “five hole” Martin Jones is busy early on, making several big stops, including one at point-blank range from the slot by Benoit Pouliot off his shoulder. Shots are 4-3 Oilers three minutes in.

19:00: Oilers get off to a rousing start, aided by a solid hit from Milan Lucic.
