OVERTIME
3:34: OILERS TAKE IT IN THE EXTRA FRAME! Draisaitl fires a one-timer from McDavid, who registers his third point of the night. Oilers gain a share of first in the Pacific Division.
5:00: Overtime has begun.
THIRD PERIOD
1:58 AND THEY MAKE IT COUNT! The Oilers throw everything on net, with Lucic eventually sweeping in a rebound. Draisaitl and McDavid get the helpers. | EDM 2, ANA 2
2:45: Vermette gets called for hooking. The Oilers get their fourth power play of the night.
5:59: Talbot’s 16th save of the night is a big one. He stops Perry on a clear breakaway to keep the Oilers within one.
9:02: McDavid drives wide, putting the puck on net. Maroon then Darnell Nurse whack at it but Gibson closes the door.
11:07: Eaves scores his 29th while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is in the box for slashing. Antoine Vermette drew all the attention to him as he took the unoccupied space in the slot. He then dished it to Eaves at the side of the net for an easy tap-in. Getzlaf got the second assist on the play. | ANA 2, EDM 1
15:32: Jakob Silfverberg and Kesler share a give-and-go attempt but Kesler’s shot on a down-and-out Talbot hits the crossbar.
16:55: Gryba sends the puck in Zack Kassian’s direction and he almost deflects it past the Ducks goaltender.
17:33: Draisaitl finds McDavid in the slot. He spins to his backhand and gets a weak shot on Gibson.
20:00: The third period has begun.
SECOND PERIOD
00:00 After 40 minutes, it’s 1-1. The battle for tops in the Pacific Division is tight. Shots are 24-14 Edmonton.
1:26: Patrick Eaves foils the Oilers offensive pressure by knocking the net off. He gets called for delay of game. Oil back on the power play.
4:30: Oscar Klefbom’s slapper takes a bounce off the end boards and is almost put home by the joint effort of Hendricks and Drake Caggiula.
6:17: A pass bounces over Gryba’s stick at the offensive blueline and Nick Ritchie chases it down. He gets a quality shot off on Talbot but the Oilers netminder is up to the task.
10:57: Edmonton don’t strike on Perry’s hooking penalty but Ryan Kesler puts the Ducks short with a holding the stick infraction.
13:39: Perry gets called for hooking giving the Oilers and their fifth-ranked power play a go.
15:05: Eric Gryba’s point shot flutters towards the Ducks’ net. It causes a rebound but Gibson is able to snare it swiftly.
16:33: Matt Hendricks goes to the box and the Ducks waste no time in converting up a man. Getzlaf wires a wrist shot top shelf to tie the game up. | EDM 1, ANA 1
20:00: The middle period has begun.
FIRST PERIOD
00:00: Oilers take a 1-0 lead into the second period. They are piling up the shots, outshooting the Ducks 14-4.
48.1: THE BIG RIG CAN DANCE! Maroon finesses his way through the Ducks’ zone then finds McDavid in the slot to score his 29th of the season. Larsson registers the secondary assist, giving him 14 on the year. | EDM 1, ANA 0
1:57: Milan Lucic outmuscles Ryan Getzlaf in the defensive zone, then hikes up ice on a 2-on-1 with Jordan Eberle. He dishes to Eberle who is stopped by the glove of Gibson.
2:42: The Oil continue to tilt momentum in their favour. Up 12-4 in shots.
6:14: HIGHWAY ROBBERY! Cam Talbot gloves Corey Perry’s shot from just outside the top of the crease to keep this game scoreless.
6:28: Edmonton mostly outplaying Anaheim, maintaining pressure and possession. They now lead 9-2 in shots.
12:37: Oilers get two back-to-back goalmouth opportunities on John Gibson but they can’t bury. The first one is Patrick Maroon from Leon Draisaitl, the other was McDavid from Maroon.
13:43: The third line gets some deep cycling going but when it’s brought up top to the blueline, it trickles out the zone. Oilers lead the shot count 4-2.
18:26: Oilers come out the gate fast, as Connor McDavid powers his way to the Ducks’ net but can’t stuff the puck home.
20:00: The battle for Pacific Division supremacy is under way.
