THIRD PERIOD
00:00: OILERS WIN! They defeat the Kings 2-1 to clinch a playoff berth.
13.0: Talbot with another huge save to keep the Oilers ahead.
4:15: Plenty of chances for the Oilers but they remain only one goal up. They’re outshooting the Kings 12-3 in the third period.
11:21: Talbot with two massive saves on Carter.
13:03: Tanner Pearson gives the Oilers another opportunity on the man advantage after roughing McDavid behind the Kings’ net. Oilers back to the power play.
15:23: Oilers fail to score on the Brayden McNabb penalty following the second waved off goal.
17:52: Another disallowed goal for the Oilers. As the Kings had a delayed penalty, Desharnais wrapped a pass around the Kings net that found Zack Kassian but before he deposited it behind Quick the refs claimed the Kings touched the puck. No goal.
20:00: The third and final frame has begun.
SECOND PERIOD
00:00: Nugent-Hopkins takes off on a breakaway, releasing a wrist shot that Quick gets a piece of with his glove. Talbot shuts the door as the Kings make a last-ditch attempt to even the score in the dying seconds of the period. 2-1 Oilers heading into the final 20 minutes. Shots are now 24-15 Kings.
2:48: Kris Russell almost gets one through Quick to give the Oilers some insurance but can’t find twine. At the other end, Talbot flashes the leather once again on a Muzzin wrist shot. Shots are now 23-13 for Los Angeles.
10:11: Talbot gloves a Jake Muzzin wrist shot.
11:28: After dropping a broken stick, Drake Caggiula grabs the puck and sends it out of the Oilers zone. He gets two minutes for closing his hand on the puck. Oilers to the penalty kill.
12:57: ANOTHER LUCKY BOUNCE! Gryba’s point shot catches a deflection on its way to the net and eludes Quick. He nabs his second goal of the year and sixth point. Helpers awarded to Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins. | EDM 2, LAK 1
14:48: Not many whistles early in the second frame. Kings doubling the Oilers in shots 16-8.
20:00: The second period has begun.
FIRST PERIOD
00:00: All tied up at 1-1 after the first period. Kings are ahead in the shot department 11-7.

5:16: CAPTAIN CONNOR! With McDavid and Maroon approaching on a 2-on-1, the Oilers captain attempts to slide the puck over to Maroon but the pass deflects off Derek Forbort’s stick and past Quick. That’s McDavid’s 27th marker of the year and 89th point. Leon Draisaitl gets an assist to make it 71 points this season. | EDM 1, LAK 0
10:06: All sorts of mayhem in front of Cam Talbot but he stays poised and stops a Kings point shot.
14:52: Eric Gryba and Kyle Clifford drop the mitts and each get five minutes for fighting.
15:38: Darnell Nurse takes a wrist shot that is swallowed by Quick. David Desharnais tries to avoid the Kings’ netminder as he drives to the net but makes contact with him and a scrum ensues.
16:49: Oilers with some early pressure after the disallowed goal. They lead in the shot count 3-1.
19:11: Oscar Klefbom scores but the play is called back after a coach’s challenge. With Patrick Maroon in the crease, the refs deemed Jonathan Quick was interfered with and could not extend his pad to make the save. Remains scoreless.
20:00: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins wins the draw as we are under way!
