0.0: THE HOUSE WINS!!! It’s two massive Pacific Division points coming Edmonton’s way, starting in goal from Mike Smith who was exceptional with 39 saves and now has back-to-back shutouts. Russell, Foegele, Ceci and Kane do the damage up front. The Oilers will take a holiday break on Sunday and regroup for practice Monday before they host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

4:27: NUGE WILL GET CREDIT!!! It’s a shorthanded goal after Nugent-Hopkins flips it on net and it finds its way in after Kane crashed the net. It was initially waved off, but the refs could see it clearly crossed. | EDM 4, VGK 0

6:17: Zack Kassian gets the stick up on Keegan Kolesar at the faceoff and takes a high-sticking call.

9:40: Amazing dangle and set-up by McDavid to Kane, but the save by Thompson was phenomenal as well.

12:08: Smitty continues to shut the door. Up to 33 saves now after absorbing a Pietrangelo slap shot.

13:52: Hyman heads off for slashing the stick of Alex Pietrangelo.

14:44: FOEGELE FLASHES THE SPEED!!! The Oilers winger knocks down a Knights pass in the defensive zone, blazes up the left side around the back-tracking defender, then goes forehand-to-backhand on Thompson to make it a three-goal game for the Oilers. | EDM 3, VGK 0

19:25: CECI SCORES!!! Just over 30 seconds into the third, the defender’s point shot gets through traffic to double Edmonton’s lead early in the frame. It might’ve clipped Puljujarvi on the way in but we’ll wait and see. For now, it’s Cody’s goal and both tallies have come from the blueline for Edmonton today. | EDM 2, VGK 0

20:00: The third period is ON!!!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: 40 minutes in the books at Rogers Place! Oilers up by a goal thanks to Rusty’s first in 125 games back in the first frame.

1:47: The Oilers dominate possession in the Vegas zone and Barrie lets fly a hard one-timer that forces Thompson into a quick save. Soon after, Hyman juuuuust misses a wrap around.

3:57: Yamamoto takes his first shift since blocking a hard shot from his own teammate in Evan Bouchard. That’s a relief for Oilers fans!

9:41: Just past the midway point of this matinee, and the Oilers lead by a goal but trail 21-14 in shots.

18:27: Connor McDavid draws a hold from Zach Whitecloud, meaning the Oilers will get their first powerplay!

19:17: Yamamoto strikes IRON in the opening minute of the second! IN THE POPEYE’S MINUTE OF ALL TIMES, TOO!

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The first period concludes and it’s Cowboy Kris’ first goal in three seasons that has the Oilers ahead after 20 minutes.

3:34: RUSTYYYYY!!! Just after it looked like Zack Kassian might’ve waited himself out of an open look to the left of Thompson, he put a pass back to Kris Russell to wrist home his first of the season and first goal in 125 games (!). The last team he scored against? … The Golden Knights. Advantage Edmonton. | EDM 1, VGK 0

7:38: Smitty with a couple more nice stops on that kill by the Oilers.

9:38: Kane gets called for hooking as a Knight tries to exit the zone. Looked minimal, but it’ll be two minutes on the PP for Vegas.

11:21: We reach the first TV timeout and it’s Mike Smith looking the sharpest of the bunch, making six saves so far. Edmonton on the board with just two shots.

20:00: DROP THE PUCK! This afternoon’s important Pacific Division tilt is underway!
