0.0: The Oilers and Flames combine for 14 goals, but the Oilers lose out in a high-scoring Battle of Alberta 9-5 on Saturday night. Edmonton returns home to play the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night at Rogers Place.

5:37: Dillon Dube adds another top shelf for good measure. | CGY 9, EDM 5

9:21: Kulak heads off immediately too for interference. 5-on-4 for the Flames.

9:41: Tkachuk is in the box with Nurse and Puljujarvi. We’ll play even, though.

13:59: Backlund top shelf for his second of the night. | CGY 8, EDM 5

17:05: Starting where we left off with another goal, but it’s for the Flames. Lindholm beats Smith under the arm for his second of the night. | CGY 7, EDM 5

20:00: The third period is ON!!! Can we upstage that second frame and can the Oilers find their way back in?

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Six goals in that period sees the Flames take a 6-5 lead into the final frame. At the buzzer, Brassard takes a crosschecking penalty, so the Flames will start with a two-minute powerplay.

3:41: McDavid grabs onto Calle Jarnkrok for a holding penalty.

8:58: Duncan Keith takes a cross-checking penalty.

10:42: HAT-TRICK LEON!!! And he ties Auston Matthews of Toronto for the league lead in goals with 47 after McDavid dished a beautiful pass to the German. Still 56 seconds of PP time to go. | CGY 6, EDM 5

11:47: Hyman is high sticked right after the faceoff, so Edmonton will take an extended two-man advantage.

11:50: Nurse chopped down. Edmonton heads to another PP and they could use another goal. There’s been plenty of those already tonight and we’re not even halfway through this game.

14:54: They just keep coming. Gaudreau back to Tkachuk, who slides it under Koskinen to once again put the Flames ahead. Mike Smith is going to come into this game in relief. | CGY 5, EDM 4

16:08: BING!!! NUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!! This game is going off, and so is Nugent-Hopkins, who puts McDavid’s PP feed off the post and in for his third point of the night for the IMMEDIATE Oilers response. | EDM 4, CGY 4

19:16: ANOTHER EARLY GOAL!!! The Oilers make due on their remaining powerplay time to begin the second period as Draisaitl scores his 46th (!) goal of the season after Zach Hyman one-touched a perfect feed in front onto the tape of the German to quickly snipe home. | EDM 3, CGY 3

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Five goals in the opening frame of the Battle of Alberta sees the Flames lead 3-2 through 20 minutes.

17.6: Backlund with an egregious interference on McDavid to earn two minutes. Evander Kane doesn’t like it and goes after the Flames forward. Oilers powerplay late in the frame.

55.0: GOT ONE BACK!!! Nugent-Hopkins delivers a sublime feed to a streaking Leon Draisaitl at the blueline before the German brought it to his forehand and went far side on Markstrom to bring it to a one-goal game before the break. | CGY 3, EDM 2

5:21: Two goals in 16 seconds for the Flames as Michael Backlund goes up top to double the lead. | CGY 3, EDM 1

5:36: Koskinen makes the save on Chris Tanev, but it hits the skate of Darnell Nurse and goes in. Bad bounce. | CGY 2, EDM 1

6:08: Leon Draisaitl feeds Ryan McLeod in front, but he can’t get his shot up and Jakob Markstrom grabs it. His left-handedness probably didn’t help him on that play.

7:52: Oliver Kylington hits the post! Each team has struck iron already tonight.

12:06: Erik Gudbranson sends it over the glass for Delay of Game. OILERS POWERPLAY!

14:32: Elias Lindholm backhands the tying goal in past Mikko Koskinen on a breakaway. | EDM 1, CGY 1

15:36: McDavid goes in on a breakaway and the Flames get away with a hook. On the next sequence, the captain strikes the crossbar. Great start to this BoA!

17:00: Zack Kassian’s shot nearly tucked in on the rebound by Warren Foegele after Devin Shore provided the screen.
