McDavid had a goal and assist along with Brad Malone, with Cody Ceci scoring a goal and Evan Bouchard chipping in with two assists. A huge win for Edmonton, and we’re back in action Saturday night against the always-dangerous Tampa Bay Lightning. Yes.

2:29: Mantha strikes the post on a Capitals 2-on-1.

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: This game will go to overtime after Oshie scored in the last second.

1:19: Washington pulls their goalie!

9:29:  BUGZZZZY!!! Zack Kassian backhands it right onto the tape of Malone, who makes no mistake and puts Edmonton ahead by depositing his first of the season and first goal since Dec. 3, 2015 top shelf. Two-point night for the veteran, along with Bouchard, who picks up an assist. | EDM 3, WSH 2

13:47: TJ Oshie beats Koskinen short side to tie the game. Backstrom also gets his 1,000th NHL point. | EDM 2, WSH 2

14:03: Lagesson comes through on a hit but trips up a Capital. Washington PP.

16:04: Samsonov with a BIG pad stop on Evander Kane, who got the feed from Draisaitl right in the slot.

17:30: McDavid is hooked, sending the Oilers back to the PP!

20:00: The final frame has BEGUN!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers get two from Yamamoto & Ceci in the second period after Backstrom opened the scoring. The Oilers lead 2-1 after 40 minutes!

 1:46: SHEER DETERMINATION!!! The Oilers seemed to will the puck into the net for the go-ahead goal with some great forward progress towards the Capitals net. The Capitals turned the puck over at the blueline before Derek Ryan dropped it to Brad Malone, who put it on net before a crashing Cody Ceci got two whacks at it and got it by Ilya Samsonov to put Edmonton ahead. | EDM 2, WSH 1

5:04: John Carlson goes top shelf for the go-ahead goal, but Edmonton challenges and it’s OFFSIDE!!! No goal. Video Coach Jeremy Coupal has converted his last nine challenges. Capitals still have a minute of power-play time.

6:04: A Foegele holding call sends Washington back to the power play.

7:59: YAMAMO-TIE GAME!!! On the power play, McDavid walks low and sends it across goal to the backpost for Yamamoto to one-touch into the back of the net. McDavid & Bouchard pick up the assists and the Oilers have a deserved equalizer. | EDM 1, WSH 1

8:27: Washington gets caught on a Too Many Men call in the neutral zone. Third Oilers PP is coming up!

11:16: In a melee of sticks in the Oilers corner, Evander Kane comes out of it with a tripping penalty.

13:35: Warren Foegele gets called for holding Trevor Van Riemsdyk in the o-zone. Washington’s first PP.

17:43: Niklas Backstrom whacks a no-look slap backhand five-hole under Koskinen for the opening goal. Weird play. | WSH 1, EDM 0

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Really encouraging period for the Oilers, who outshoot Washington 20-9 but the game remains tied after 20 minutes.

6:12: Evander Kane gets stopped point blank by Samsonov.

6:35: Hyman gets leveled at the Oilers blueline by Martin Fehervary, but the puck had gone by the defender and that’s interference. Second Oilers PP coming up!

8:10: Great sequence by the Oilers as Hyman chases down a potential icing call before making a hit, walking the puck out front and starting a flurry of chances for Edmonton with a shot on Ilya Samsonov that’s absorbed up high with his chest protector. The Oilers have put 16 shots the way of the Washington netminder through 12 minutes.

11:53: Mikko Koskinen absolutely STEALS goal #767 from Alex Ovechkin with a monstrous glove save. It’s still early though, but what a massive glove stop from the Finn on the Russian who’s chasing sole possession of third place all-time in NHL scoring.

12:41: Seven shots on that Oilers opening power play. How’s that for urgency?

13:22: Already four shots registered by Edmonton as they put an onus on shooting with the man advantage.

14:41: Dmitry Orlov with a bit of rough stuff on Hyman to earn two minutes. The Oilers will get an early chance to try out the PP after spending the majority of Tuesday’s practice focusing on the man advantage.
