THIRD PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers drop a 5-2 decision to the Montreal Canadiens as the visitors win their seventh game in eight under new head coach Martin St. Louis. Edmonton drops to their 11th loss in their last 16 games at Rogers Place and 30-22-4 on the season. We’ll be back in action on Monday with the Battle of Alberta at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Flames.

3:49: Empty-net goal for Mike Hoffman. | MTL 5, EDM 2

9:45: Brett Kulak outwaits Smith and sends it back into the slot for Arturri Lehkonnen to wrist into the open net. Two-goal game. | MTL 4, EDM 2

10:54: Gallagher swipes at a stick on the Oilers bench and earns an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. We’ll play 4-on-4 for 1:02 of play.

11:48: Smith catches an edge and pushes the net off, and the refs are going to give the netminder a delay of game penalty. Habs 5-on-3 for five seconds. They’re going to look at this and maybe give a goal, but it wasn’t in between the posts, so it’ll just be two minutes.

13:43: McLeod gets the stick up on Brett Kulak. Montreal heads to the powerplay.

17:48: Smith gets the stick down on a 2-on-1 to deny the Canadiens chance.

20:00: The final frame has started! Oilers with 1:48 of powerplay left.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Teams trade goals and Montreal leads by a goal after the second period. Shots 22-19 in favour of the Oilers.

11.8: Late penalty sees Ben Chiarot go off for highsticking.

6:31: POST AND OUT FROM BOUCHARD. So close.

7:03: Turnover at the Oilers blueline leads to Laurent Dauphin walking in alone and sliding it under Smith for the shorthanded goal. But once again, we’ll have an Oilers review for offside… AND IT’S OVERTURNED (AGAIN). Coupal is 2-for-2 on challenges.

8:38: McDavid gets held up in the neutral zone. That’s holding, and Mike Hoffman heads off.

9:48: On literally a mirror play of the overturned goal, Suzuki walks down and snipes it top shelf. | MTL 3, EDM 2

10:15: Nick Suzuki walks down from the point on the powerplay and beats Smith over the right pad. But now it’s Edmonton’s turn to challenge the plat for offside. IT’S OVERTURNED!!! Shoutout to the incredible eye of Oilers Video Coach Jeremy Coupal.

11:35: Warren Foegele heads to the box for hooking Josh Anderson in the neutral zone.

14:23: CLOUDER!!! The young Oilers forward collects the loose puck and flips it over the left pad of Montembault for his sixth of the campaign after Zach Hyman made the play by driving wide and through the crease. Hyman and Evan Bouchard get the assists.

It’s currently being reviewed by the referees for goaltender interference… BUT IT COUNTS! It looked like Alexander Romanov caused the collision by pushing Hyman into the Montreal goaltender. The Oilers now get the opportunity with the powerplay after a failed challenge. | EDM 2, MTL 2

20:00: The second period has BEGUN!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Time was more than expired on the first period, but Montembault robbed Draisaitl at the final buzzer with the glove. Habs lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.

38.5: Brendan Gallagher gets the second opportunity between the hashmarks and puts it five-hole on Smith. | MTL 2, EDM 1

2:21: At the other end, Kane takes a hooking penalty in front of Smith. First PP goes to the visitors.

2:41: Kane comes whiskers away from scoring his second of the game after the puck popped loose in front off a Kailer Yamamoto rush.

8:40: HOW’S THAT FOR AN ANSWER?!?  Just 22 seconds after conceding the opener, the Oilers tie the game with a nice passing play between Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane. The German fed Kane in front from along the halfboards before Kane quickly turned and slapped it under Montembault for his eighth goal of the campaign and third in two games. | EDM 1, MTL 1

9:02: Cole Caufield drags the puck and goes far side on Mike Smith to open the scoring. Nice shot. | MTL 1, EDM 0

11:08: A sublime feed from Philip Broberg off the boards unlocked Evander Kane, who cut wide on the Montreal defender and tried to tuck it in before stopping short of the crease.

15:38: Ryan McLeod cuts through the Canadiens defence and nearly slides it five-hole under Sam Montembault for the opening goal.

20:00: A terrific rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem before puck drop tonight by the Axios Ukrainian Men’s Ensemble. We stand in solidarity with all of Ukraine.

20:00: GAME ON!!! Hockey Night in Canada and a full crowd at Rogers Place for the Oilers vs. Canadiens.

20:00: Tonight’s game will begin at 5:07pm MT on Hockey Night in Canada.
