0.0: Mikael Backlund takes a late interference penalty as the horn sounds to signal the end of the frame. Edmonton and Calgary enter the third squared up at three-all but the home side will have a full two-minute power play to work with when it starts.

4:59: Warren Foegele shows pinpoint precision with a stretch pass to Kailer Yamamoto for a breakaway. The Oilers winger tries to slip the puck under Markstrom’s wickets to no avail.
7:10: Koskinen denies Lucic not once but twice from within 15 feet for saves No. 23 and 24 of the night.

FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Tkachuk and Lucic provide the Flames with a two-goal lead after 20 minutes of play. Shots are 18-13 in favour of Calgary.
38.9: Former Oilers forward Milan Lucic gets a piece of Noah Hanifin’s point shot to score his ninth of the season. Calgary gets the insurance marker on the power play. | CGY 2, EDM 0
2:33: Leon Draisaitl is whistled down for holding against Sean Monahan. Edmonton heads back to the PK.
5:28: Koskinen discards Gaudreau’s backhander off the rush and the Oilers do a good job of disrupting cross-ice passes to nullify Nurse’s minor. The defender jumps out the box and barrels to the net for a great chance the other end but can’t cash it in.
7:35: Nikita Zadorov pounds Darnell Nurse with a bit hit along the boards and Nurse replies with a two-hander to the defender’s back. Nurse is pointed to the gate for cross-checking as a result.
11:30: Matthew Tkachuk drives the net to put back the rebound from Lindholm’s wrister as the Flames strike first. | CGY 1, EDM 0
12:19: Devin Shore intercepts the puck in the neutral zone, tilts the ice the other way and feeds Colton Sceviour for a shot from outside that hits Markstrom in the breadbasket.
16:29: Flames keeper Jacob Markstrom dismisses Duncan Keith’s slap shot and then makes a follow-up stop on Jesse Puljujarvi from the slot.
19:07: Elias Lindholm finds Johnny Gaudreau in front for a quick chip shot but Koskinen handles his first test with ease.
