THIRD PERIOD
0.0: That’s it. The Oilers threaten the Kraken net late, but can’t complete the comeback as they fall 4-3 on the road. Edmonton begins a six-game homestand on Sunday, when they host the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Place.
1:31: It gets even more interesting, as Larsson takes his third penalty and sends the Oilers to a 6-on-4 with a high stick on Draisaitl.
1:55: With less than two minutes to go and an offensive-zone draw, Edmonton pulls the goalie for the extra attacker.
3:07: Foegele DENIED as he gets out of the box and gets a great chance in transition, but Grubauer gets enough of it to send it wide. Incredibly close.
5:20: Not good. Warren Foegele gets called for tripping as Edmonton heads back to the penalty kill with time winding down.
6:06: Relentless pressure here from the Oilers as they search for the equalizer. They smell blood in the water here at Climate Pledge Arena.
8:16: CALLING ALL CAPTAINS!!! McDavid is Johnny on the Spot in front to deflect Bouchard’s point shot through the legs of Grubauer and make it a one-goal game with just over eight minutes to go. Draisaitl gets his second helper with the secondary assist. Don’t go anywhere yet, folks. | SEA 4, EDM 3
8:32: STUUUU! The netminder makes a monstrous glove save on Morgan Geekie, who was all alone in front.
10:20: Yamamoto off to the box for interference.
17:00: Oilers show their intent by taking control in these opening three minutes of the frame, looking to find a way back into this game down two.
20:00: In need of a comeback here as the third period begins.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: That’ll do it for Period 2. Two goals in 4:47 for the Kraken in the second half of the frame put the home side ahead by a pair of goals heading into the third period. Edmonton could only muster four shots on goal.
1:47: Larsson trips up McDavid, so the Oilers PP will get the opportunity to pull one back before the intermission.
4:07: Alex Wennberg gets the twig down in front and redirects Jamie Oleksiak’s low pass into the Edmonton net for a two-goal lead. | SEA 4, EDM 2
6:54: Colin Blackwood picks up a pass at the blueline and splits the D before putting a backhand into the top shelf to put the Kraken up a goal. | SEA 3, EDM 2
11:48: BOUCH BOMB!!! The Oilers d-man let fly a slap shot with venom that beat Grubauer clean on the glove side for his fourth goal of the season. Nugent-Hopkins gets his second helper of the night and his 500th NHL point, and Puljujarvi gets on the scoresheet with an apple. Big congrats to you, Nuge. | EDM 2, SEA 2
15:56: Kailer Yamamoto heads to the box for cross-checking in his return to his home state. Edmonton shorthanded for the next two.
19:19: Sceviour is in on a partial breakaway with a Kraken defender on his back but can’t get enough lumber on it for a good shot attempt.
20:00: The second period is a GO!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Oilers trail the Kraken 2-1 after 20 minutes. A lot of shots that period with both teams tied at 14, but Seattle looked to have the extra jump.
57.5: That’ll even things up 4-on-4. McDavid drops the puck to a Kraken player and RNH takes him down.
1:36: Oilers are going back to the power play with Vince Dunn in the box for slashing!
2:17: Puljujarvi is denied in close by Grubauer from just in front of the crease on Edmonton’s best chance to equalize yet.
9:22: Larsson goes short side on Skinner to put the Kraken back ahead. | SEA 2, EDM 1
11:19: Oilers 3-on-2 leads to two good chances from Draisaitl and Jesse Puljujarvi, who’s looking to make it happen on a line with Leon and RNH.
13:19: L-L-L-LEON!!! Tack on another goal to the tally of the Deutschland Dangler, who takes the feed from Nuge and calmly but efficiently puts it away from the left circle. That’s number 21 for Leon on the year, a comfortable league best. Connor McDavid gets the secondary assist. | EDM 1, SEA 1
13:49: Adam Larsson has to take Ryan Nugent-Hopkins down to prevent him from making the most of a turnover along the Kraken goal line. That’s interference for the former Oiler.
15:40: Slick double save from Skinner, who’s been under siege here in the Edmonton net in the opening four-and-a-half minutes.
16:48: Kris Russell wires a slap shot from the point that’s gobbled up by Philipp Grubauer.
19:11: Goal Seattle. Yanni Gourde rips a one-timer along the ice and beats Skinner five-hole. Just 49 seconds in, we’re down a goal. | SEA 1, EDM 0
19:38: Not even 30 seconds into the game, Stuart Skinner is called upon to make a sharp shoulder stop and send it out of play.
20:00: PUCK DROP! We’re underway at Climate Pledge Arena!
20:00: The calm before the storm. Teams are out on the ice for anthems!
