THIRD PERIOD

0.0: Time expires and that’ll do it. The Oilers drop their first of three games on this road trip by a score of 4-1 to the Dallas Stars. Connor McDavid’s 17-game point streak to begin the season comes to an end in the process. McLeod scores the only Oilers goal and now has three goals in his last five games, while Philip Broberg led the Oilers with five shots. We’ll to it all again tomorrow night, when the Oilers complete a back-to-back in Arizona against the Coyotes.

0.20: Robertson takes a penalty. Little late for that one, stripes.

9:13: Broberg looks effortless winding his way through the neutral zone and into the Dallas zone to get his fifth shot of the game. That leads all Oilers tonight.

11:41: That hurts. Luke Glendening with a great deflection to put Dallas back up by three. The puck was going well wide, but it was a good head-up play by Ryan Suter to put it towards goal and an even-better redirection by Glendening. | DAL 4, EDM 1

12:15: Shots are 23-17 in favour of Dallas as we approach this midway mark of the final period. Time is of the essence now.

20:00: Puck is down on the third period. The Oilers have three wins after trailing through two periods, so the precedent for a comeback is there.

Defenceman Duncan Keith has been ruled out of the rest of this game with an upper-body injury., so the Oilers will play out the final 20 minutes with two defenders.

20:00: The third period is coming up!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Through two periods, Edmonton trails 3-1. The offence has only been able to muster 13 shots the way of Oettinger in the Dallas crease. We’ll need a final-frame turnaround here in Texas.

16.0: Draisaitl takes a tripping call after dragging his foot in the Dallas zone. It’s been a steady march to the box for the Blue & Orange this game, while the Stars have kept things relatively clean.

5:01: Zach Hyman gets slashed by Hintz on a shorthanded transition to even things up. We’ll play 4-on-4 for 1:25.

5:36: Draisaitl takes a crosscheck from Esa Lindell with no call, then the German gets punished with two minutes in the box soon after for the same infraction. Dallas back to the PP.

9:25: ON THE BOARD!!! Ryan McLeod has three goals in his last five games as he goes up ice on a 2-on-1 with Leon Draisaitl and takes the pass from the German before lifting it into the top corner. Jesse Puljujärvi picks up the secondary helper for his first point in four games. | DAL 3, EDM 1

10:33: Denis Gurianov takes off with speed and goes five-hole under Skinner to extend the Stars’ advantage. The Dallas PP had just expired. Klingberg gets his third helper of the game to match his season total coming into this game. | DAL 3, EDM 0

12:37: Philip Broberg has his first penalty in his second NHL game. Dallas looking deadly on the PP tonight already converting both chances with the man advantage.

13:45: McDavid taking some extra reps in between Brendan Perlini and Colton Sceviour.

15:03: SKINNERRRR 📣! Huge pad stop by the Oilers netminder on a 2-on-1 as he flashed the right pad on the cross-ice pass!

17:04: Jani Hakanpaa and Zack Kassian come together below the Dallas goal line in a big collision. The play’s blown down for Kassian but the big man gets up and is alright.

20:00: Second period underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: We’re through 20 minutes, with goals from Robertson and Peterson putting Dallas up by two.

0.47: BLOCKER STOP SKINNER! The Oilers ‘tender denies Michael Raffl on the breakaway for an important save.

4:01: Robertson doubles the Dallas lead. Hintz sent a pass cross-ice to the Calder Trophy runner-up from last season, who ripped a wrist shot short side under Skinner’s glove. It’s the first time the Oilers have given up two PP goals in a game this season. | DAL 2, EDM 0

4:48: Oilers go back to the penalty kill with a Too Many Men call. Dallas already 1-for-1 tonight.

7:04: Skinner can’t cover the puck on the left post and it kicks out to Hintz, who almost doubles the Stars’ lead with a good opportunity that’s absorbed by the Edmonton netminder.

9:01: John Klingberg walks the line on the PP and lets go of a wrist shot through traffic that’s double-deflected by Alexander Radulov and Roope Hintz before beating Stuart Skinner. | DAL 1, EDM 0

10:00: Duncan Keith trips up Jacob Peterson and Dallas will get the game’s first man advantage. The Stars have scored PP goals in nine-straight games.

10:50: Not a lot of room out there for both sides in a cagey defensive start to this one.

13:41: Evan Bouchard sends a shot through traffic that challenges Jake Oettinger in the Dallas net. It’s only the second shot of the game through six minutes of play.

20:00: GAME ON!!! Puck is down in Dallas.

20:00: American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas is the venue the Edmonton Oilers will open up a three-game road slate that sends them through Dallas & Arizona on a back-to-back before concluding the trip with a Saturday date in the theatre of Las Vegas with the Golden Knights.

Stuart Skinner contends the crease for the third-straight game, as the young 23-year-old goaltender from Edmonton, AB has been exceptional. Connor McDavid has a 17-game points streak on the line, so look for the captain to keep that rolling. Derek Ryan returns from injury to centre the fourth line between Brendan Perlini and Colton Sceviour.
