OVERTIME

1:33: DRAISAITL, IN OVERRRRRRRTIME! The Edmonton Oilers come back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the New York Rangers 6-5 in overtime on Kevin Lowe Jersey Retirement Night! Draisaitl, McDavid & Barrie net a goal and two assists apiece, Nurse picks up three assists,  Puljujärvi scores twice and Koskinen stops 20 shots as the team improves to 9-1-0! Now, someone, somewhere, please, if all you could do is… PLAY LA BAMBA!

3:34: Draisaitl sails a heavy wrister just wide of the cage. At the other end, Jacob Trouba shakes the net off with a hard drive.

0.0: We’re off to overtime on what has been a highly-eventful night in Oil Country!

2:59: GOAL OF THE YEAR! The Oilers Captain does the IMPOSSIBLE once again, dangling through four players and tucking the puck past Georgiev for a SUBLIME Goal of the Year candidate! Are you not entertained Mr. Lowe!? | EDM 5, NYR 5

3:36: Foegele whips a wrist shot high off Georgiev’s mask and out of play.

4:52: Keith hammers a one-timer from the right wall but Georgiev is there for the big stop. The Oilers keep pushing.

6:24: The Oilers continue to trail with just over six minutes to play… Shots in the 3rd period are 7-4 EDM.

12:42: Zibanejad walks inside the zone and goes high blocker to quell the Oilers momentum. | NYR 5, EDM 4

16:25: COMEBACK COMPLETE! Puljujärvi flips in a loose puck from the slot to notch the game-tying goal after the Oilers were down 4-1! That’s his second of the evening and fifth of the season, with the helpers going to Keith and Evan Bouchard. Oilers fans give the team a standing ovation for the incredible comeback! | EDM 4, NYR 4

20:00: The third period has begun! Shore is not on the Oilers bench to start the period and will not return to the game due to a lower-body injury.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: New York scores three times within the opening six minutes of the middle stanza and Puljujärvi replies with his fourth as the Oilers head into the third period with their work cut out for them down by two. Shots after 40 are 22-21 EDM.

5:19: HOWITZER! Puljujärvi loads up and RIFLES a slap shot right through Georgiev for his fourth of the campaign to put the Oilers within a pair. Nugent-Hopkins nabs his League-leading 14th assist of the year and Nurse gets the secondary helper. | NYR 4, EDM 2 

7:07: At long last, the Oilers get a whistle in their favour as Strome will sit two minutes for hooking. Edmonton’s top-ranked power play goes to work.

11:56: Draisaitl finishes his check but the refs deem it a bit late, sending him to the box for interference.

13:04: Mika Zibanejad deflects the puck in with his skate as the Rangers pull ahead by three. | NYR 4, EDM 1

14:24: Kassian heads to the box for slashing.

15:49: Chris Kreider lets one go from his off-wing on the right side and the puck skips off Duncan Keith’s stick and past Koskinen for the two-goal advantage. | NYR 3, EDM 1

17:08: Kevin Rooney goes top shelf from in-tight to regain the lead. | NYR 2, EDM 1

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Ryan Lindgren hauls McDavid down and keeps him on the ice right in front of the refs but no penalty is called… The Oilers and Rangers finish the first deadlocked at 1-1. Shots favoured the Oilers 13-10.

1:49: THE HYPE MAN! Zach Hyman puts his nose to the ice and stuffs home the puck one inch from the goal-line for his seventh(!) of the season! He now has 10 points on the year with his new club. | EDM 1, NYR 1

4:55: Darnell Nurse releases a shot from the blueline that changes direction en route to the net but Alexandar Georgiev is on the ball to catch the bouncing puck.

8:14: Koskinen pushes out to get his shoulder on Ryan Strome’s quick shot from the slot off the rush.

13:04: Connor McDavid weaves within the offensive zone and drops a pass for Jesse Puljujärvi, who puts a quick snapshot wide of the twine. Shots are 6-3 NYR near the midway mark of the first.

18:07: Rangers forward Filip Chytil takes advantage of a stick-less Mikko Koskinen, placing the puck glove side past the keeper to open the scoring. | NYR 1, EDM 0

20:00: Kevin Lowe’s No. 4 is in the Rogers Place rafters where it rightfully belongs. Now it’s time for his two former clubs, the Oilers and Rangers, to do battle. GAME ON!
