0.0: We’re headed to overtime after the Canucks rally in the final 10 minutes to overcome a two-goal deficit.
2:49: Quinn Hughes fires from the half-wall and it leaks through Smith as the Canucks notch the equalizer. | EDM 2, VAN 2
7:32: Ekman-Larsson strikes with a seeing-eye shot from the blueline. Visitors get within one. | EDM 2, VAN 1
9:01: The whistle sounds against the Oilers once again as Tyson Barrie gets directed to the sin bin for tripping.
11:36: Four Vancouver shots on goal yield four saves by Smith on Russell’s penalty.
12:25: Shut the door! Smith makes stop after stop after STOP shorthanded to keep the Canucks at bay.
13:46: Evan Bouchard walks in from the blueline and claps a shot on goal, seeing Nugent-Hopkins lunge for the follow-up but Demko turns both aside. At the other end, Kris Russell is called for cross-checking.
16:37: Yamamoto and Horvat get wrapped up in the Oilers zone, falling to the ice for a stoppage of play. The Oilers kill Hyman’s penalty.
20:00: The third period has begun with Keith back on the Oilers bench after taking that massive hit from Myers. Hyman still has a minute on his minor.

SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers take a two-goal advantage into the third stanza. Shots after 40 minutes are 25-22 EDM. The Orange & Blue are 1-for-2 on the powerplay and 57 percent in the dot.
42.5: Hyman takes a holding infraction. The Oil go back shorthanded.
2:48: TIC-TAC-TOE! McDavid goes cross-ice to Draisaitl, who finds Zach Hyman on the doorstep for his FIRST GOAL as an Oiler! And what a thing of beauty it was. | EDM 2, VAN 0
3:43: The Canucks are called for too many men. Edmonton goes up a man after killing Sceviour’s instigator penalty, which was served by Kyle Turris.
6:45: Duncan Keith is checked hard in the Oilers corner by Canucks defender Tyler Myers. Sceviour steps in immediately and throws down with the 6-foot-8 rearguard, who gets the takedown quick. Sceviour receives two minutes for instigating, giving the ‘Nucks another man advantage. Keith heads to the dressing room.
7:13: SCHMIDDY! Edmonton’s last line of defence is in mid-season form, DENYING Kyle Burroughs’ dangerous opportunity from the right circle.
10:16: Kailer Yamamoto, looking for a bounce-back season after scoring eight goals in ’20-21, breaks in all alone and attempts to go backhand-forehand like he did a few nights ago but can’t light the lamp.
10:47: Draisaitl and Puljujärvi test Demko with zingers off the rush to no avail as the Oilers first powerplay of the season goes cold.
13:13: The Oilers get two minutes of fun time as Oliver Ekman-Larsson skates off to the penalty box for cross-checking. Edmonton has had the best powerplay in the NHL for the last two seasons.
13:30: Former Oilers winger Alex Chiasson streaks in from his off wing and rips a wrister on Smith, who squeezes it tight.
16:36: Ryan McLeod is whistled for slashing. Vancouver goes to the man advantage for the first time tonight. Last year, the Oilers ranked ninth on the PK with an 82.5 percentage.

FIRST PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers overturn a 6-3 Vancouver shot advantage, finishing the opening period up a goal and leading the shot department 14-10. The home side won 60 percent of the faceoffs in the frame and blocked six shots.
3:05: JESSE’S GOAL! Nurse puts one on target and Puljujärvi cleans up the rebound for the Oilers first goal of the 2021-22 season! The big Finn had 15 tucks last year and has his first already, how many will he put back this campaign? Assists go to Nurse and McDavid! | EDM 1, VAN 0
4:11: Foegele feeds the puck to the slot, Derek Ryan taps it on net then Sceviour comes in for the garbage and gets robbed by Demko.
6:47: Colton Sceviour, signed earlier today, orchestrates a wraparound and Warren Foegele dives in for the rebound to no avail.
10:26: Back and forth! Bo Horvat cuts loose on a partial break but dings the outside post. McDavid scoops the puck up and flies down the right wing, dangling through a defender but pitching a soft backhander on Thatcher Demko.
15:03: Zach Hyman spins around the net then centres the puck to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in front and he is stopped on the backhand.
18:13: Jason Dickinson quickly shoots from the slot and Smith is there for the stop but is pushed into the net by the Canucks forward in his pursuit of the rebound.
20:00: Opening Night! The Oilers 2021-22 season has officially BEGUN. Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Jesse Puljujärvi lead the team up front while Tyson Barrie and Darnell Nurse start on the blueline. Mike Smith gets Game 1 in goal!
