4:03: Coach Dave Tippett places Puljujarvi on the first line with McDavid and RNH. The Finn gets three shots in one shift, nearly putting a cheeky feed from the Captain past Andersen short side.
6:30: McDavid looks to the point for Tyson Barrie and his one-timer is snared by Andersen. Oilers pushing for the game-tying marker late.
8:14: Tavares gets his blade on Mitch Marner’s point shot for his fourth power-play goal of the season. Toronto re-enters the driver’s seat with under 10 to play in the third. | TOR 3, EDM 2

5:46: Spezza will sit for two, giving the Oilers an opportunity to answer at 5-on-4.

9:15: Jesse Puljujarvi dashes in on a partial break but is foiled by the right pad of Andersen. Puljujarvi picked up his first point of the season last game on Draisaitl’s winner.
14:05: Adam Brooks redirects Jason Spezza’s backdoor pass with his skate and the puck finds its way past Koskinen. That’s Brooks’ first career NHL goal. The two clubs swap special teams goals 43 seconds apart. | EDM 1, TOR 1
14:48: DRAT! Yamamoto causes trouble while on the kill then Draisaitl steals the puck and sweeps it past Andersen shorthanded for his second of the year! That’s Edmonton’s second shorty of the year. | EDM 1, TOR 0
15:53: McDavid’s one-timer from the slot produces Edmonton’s best chance on the man advantage. The club can’t beat Andersen. The Leafs will get a shot at 5-on-4 now as kyle Turris goes off for hooking.
18:15: Pierre Engvall heads to the sin bin as the Oilers get the game’s first power play.
18:18: McDavid spins around Zach Bogosian to gain a step at the net but is stopped not once but twice by Andersen.

FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Lots of back-and-forth hockey so far in this one but nobody is on the scoresheet. Shots are 12-11 Toronto.
2:56: McDavid’s backhand from just above the crease is snatched by the glove of Andersen. Neither netminder budging so far tonight.
3:51: Connor McDavid drops for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and his shot is deflected high. Andersen snares it for the whistle. No score near the end of the period with the shot clock deadlocked at eight apiece.
9:08: Alexander Barabanov strikes a quick shot at Koskinen but the keeper makes a glove save.
13:00: Edmonton is dictating the play so far, generating possession in the offensive zone and filtering pucks to the cage. Shots are 4-3 EDM.
14:08: Adam Larsson sifts a point shot on and Tyler Ennis deflects it but it doesn’t bounce in.
15:51: Early north-South action already as Darnell Nurse encroaches on the rush but his shot is held by Andersen.
18:34: Leon Draisaitl and Kailer Yamamoto attack on a 2-on-1 but Yamamoto is robbed by the left pad of Andersen.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun! James Neal air-drops into the lineup as Alex Chiasson will not dress. Tyler Ennis also makes a return, swapping in for Joakim Nygard. Mikko Koskinen makes his sixth start of the year and engages in a goaltender’s duel against Frederik Andersen.
