SECOND PERIOD

0.0: McDavid nets his hat-trick goal but the Blackhawks keep coming back in this one. Edmonton holds onto a 4-3 lead into the 3rd but will have one minute to kill on Khaira’s minor.

1:00: Khaira is called for holding. Yet another man advantage for Chicago.

2:46: Kassian takes a high stick to the face right off a draw, causing him to leak on the ice. The refs take a look at it and decide that it was Sheahan’s stick and not a ‘Hawks player. No penalty on the play.

2:50: HAT TRICK MCDAVID! McDavid looks to go cross-crease but his pass deflects off Keith and gets through Crawford. That’s a trick for the Oilers Captain, who now has four goals in the series! Nugent-Hopkins picks up his third point of the evening with a helper. | EDM 4, CHI 3

5:46: That’s now THREE massive kills for the Oilers. The ‘Hawks register just a single shot on their most recent advantage.

8:04: Matt Benning is now sent to the sin bin after high sticking Matthew Highmore. That’s three consecutive penalties for the Oil now.

8:10: The Orange & Blue get MASSIVE back-to-back penalty kills, with Chicago sending three shots on net and Koskinen stopping all of them.

10:25: The Oilers get some BIG shot blocks from Ethan Bear, Darnell Nurse and Josh Archibald but Sheahan, near the end of the penalty, gets whistled for slashing. Another big kill for the Oilers.

12:23: The best chance from the Oilers power play comes off a net drive by Athanasiou, who can’t get it to go. Zack Kassian is later called for holding the stick of Keith. Oilers go to the penalty kill for the first time tonight.

14:49: Olli Maatta gets two minutes for boarding, giving the Oilers a power-play opportunity to reply.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers come out hard in the first period, directing 17 shots at Crawford to Chicago’s nine. McDavid nets two goals in the first five minutes, bringing his total to three in the series, while Kane nets the lone marker for the ‘Hawks.

27.3: Jujhar Khaira almost stuffs home an Alex Chiasson centring pass but Crawford keeps his pad down for the stop.

2:23: Athanasiou-Sheahan-Kassian does a good job of getting the cycle going, allowing the Oilers to get a line change while still attacking in Chicago’s zone. Edmonton is leading the shot category 15-9.

4:49: MIKKO! The Oilers keeper denies Kane on a breakaway for his seventh save of the period.

6:52: Matt Benning sees Crawford out of position and tries to send a long ball at the net to no avail.

8:35: Adam Boqvist steps in from the blueline for a point-blank chance but Koskinen stands up to the shot.

10:54: Patrick Kane deposits a net-front feed far side on Koskinen to pull the Blackhawks within one. That’s Kane’s first goal of the series after having an empty-netter called back in Game 1. | EDM 2, CHI 1
