THIRD PERIOD

0.0: This one is off to the fourth period as both sides pick up a point.

2:55: Yamamoto gets a Grade-A chance off the rush but puts the puck wide of the net.

5:55: Matt Benning sifts a shot-pass at the net and Tyler Ennis is JUST unable to get a blade on it from the side of the post.

8:03: Marchessault lifts the puck over Koskinen’s shoulder from out front. Vegas ties it up. EDM 2, VGK 2

11:52: MIKKO THE MIGHTY! The net protector is on another level, make back-to-back-to-BACK saves while shorthanded.

12:42: Chiasson is whistled for tripping… Vegas goes to the PP.

13:14: RYAN HUUUUUUGENT-HOPKINS! RNH dumps a centring feed blocker side on Fleury for the go-ahead goal! That’s No. 93’s 22nd of the year. Yamamoto made a great play to get Nugent-Hopkins the puck while falling down, getting a very well-deserved helper, which is his 25th point. | EDM 2, VGK 1

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The 2nd period closes without a red lamp getting lit. After tallying just three shots in the first, the Oilers put 11 on Fleury in the middle stanza but still get out-shot 15-11 in the frame. Koskinen, once again, has been stellar with 29 saves on 30 shots.

1:13: Vegas applies more pressure but Edmonton doesn’t break. The Oilers get a whistle after Koskinen gloved William Karlsson’s high-slot wrist shot.

4:03: Kassian makes a nifty play off the wall to get inside the slot and release a backhander that Fleury handles. Paul Stastny attacks the other way, trying to finesse Koskinen with a stroke of patience to no avail.

6:43: Josh Archibald puts his head down and drives for the net, getting a sneaky shot on Fleury but failing to put it past him.

8:45: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins zings a shot off a faceoff that goes over the cage. The Oilers have recorded two shots on goal in the period now.

14:32: The Oilers tilt the ice the other way but are still unable to register a shot on goal this period, despite Zack Kassian’s missed shot on a 2-on-1 and Adam Larsson’s point-blank one-timer. Shots are 20-3 VGK.

16:38: Nick Cousins finds Nosek for a one-timer but Koskinen has his paddle down for the stop.

17:16: Marchessault fires off the rush but the puck goes very high and very wide.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: A tough period comes to an end as the Oilers get out-shot 15-3 after the opening 20. Chiasson nabs goal 11 on the season while Schmidt replies with his eighth.

1:34: Kris Russell appears to be on the bench and OK after eating a shot while penalty killing. It’s going to take more than that to take the Caroline Cowboy off the ice.

3:02: Nicolas Roy gets a piece of Nate Schmidt’s shot on the power play to even it up. | EDM 1, VGK 1

4:58: Klefbom takes a Vegas forward into the boards and the refs deem it to be illegal ?… The Swede will go off for cross-checking, giving VGK their first power play.

6:33: MOB YOUR MIKKO! The guardian sees a point shot bounce off the end boards to the side of the net where Tomas Nosek is, but the forward is stymied by the Finnish netminder. Koskinen’s been ON since his 2-1 OT win vs. DAL last week.

8:36: Jonathan Marchessault whacks once, twice, three times from the doorstep but Koskinen keeps it shut. The keeper has seven saves already.

11:08: ALEXISONFIRE! Alex Chiasson deflects Oscar Klefbom’s wrist shot for his 11th goal of the season and 24th point! Make that three goals and four points in his last four games now. | EDM 1, VGK 0

15:08: Darnell Nurse’s point shot hits a stick in front for a dangerous scoring opportunity but Marc-André Fleury is there for the blocker stop.

18:27: Mikko Koskinen – making his second straight start – gloves down Reilly Smith’s hot wrister from the right circle for his first puck touch of the night.

20:00: Tonight’s game has begun! The Oilers will battle for Pacific Division supremacy without Captain Connor McDavid, who is sidelined with an illness.
