THIRD PERIOD

14.4: Eberle added an empty-net goal to seal the deal. | EDM 6, COL 3

1:20: Avalanche pull their goaltender looking for some offence.

4:48: Colorado took another penalty as their third-period penalty parade continued. This time it was Mikko Rantanen going to the box. Shots on goal were 38-26 for Edmonton with less than five minutes to go.

10:40: Andreas Martinsen was sent to the box midway through the third for high sticking to put Edmonton’s power play back out there.

12:30: With Jarome Iginla in the penalty box, the Oilers struck once again to make it a two-goal lead. Leon Draisaitl’s shot in the slot found its way between the wickets of Varlamov to make it a 5-3 game. | EDM 5, COL 3


13:35: Off the rush, McDavid made a great second effort to give the Oilers their first lead of the game. The first attempt was unsuccessful but McDavid didn’t give up, firing the puck from behind the goal line off Varlamov and in to give Edmonton a 4-3 lead. | EDM 4, COL 3

19:28: The Oilers came out flying to start the third period. Connor McDavid drove to the net and trailing in behind him was Milan Lucic who scooped up the puck and put it past Semyon Varlamov moments before the net was dislodged. | EDM 3, COL 3

20:00: Period three is now underway.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Shots after 40 minutes were 27-22 for Edmonton.

1:40: Shots on goal are 26-21 Oilers as the period winds down.

4:23: MacKinnon was levelled with an open-ice hit by Benning. Joe Colborne jumped in to fight Benning immediately after. The extra two minutes went to the Avalanche, putting the Oilers right back on the PP.

4:32: Pulujarvi wired a shot off the crossbar.

5:18: AJ Greer gets two for interference and Patrick Maroon gets two for embellishment. The penalties offset.

6:22: Francois Beauchemin received two minutes for interference to give the Oilers a chance to get the game back on even terms once again.

7:04 Just as the penalty expired, Rantanen spotted Tyson Barrie at the point and his blast was tipped on its way towards the net by Bourque past Talbot to put the Avalanche back in the lead. | COL 3, EDM 2

9:06: Andrej Sekera takes two minutes for boarding to put the Avalanche power play back on the ice.

9:57: The second period has had a ton of back-and-forth action as both teams have played at a quick pace. McDavid used his speed to create a two-on-one with himself and Lucic and his pass found the stick of Lucic but the puck was just fired wide.

13:34: Shots on goal in the period are 7-4 for Colorado; 21-17 Oilers in the game overall. Talbot has made some big stops in this frame.

16:57: McDavid got in behind the Avalanche defence and just missed on his deke backhand attempt. He then set up Puljujarvi in front who was also denied by Varlamov. Moments later, Puljujarvi had another chance in front but was stopped again.

19:12: Puljujarvi took a two-minute penalty to put Colorado on the power play for the first time on the night.

20:00: Period two has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: After the opening period, shots were 17-10 for Edmonton but the game was tied 2-2.

10.4: Jordan Eberle scored only 27 seconds into the man advantage to get the Oilers back on even terms. Eberle pounced on a rebound in front of the net and put the puck inside the post, just outside the reach of Varlamov’s glove hand. | EDM 2, COL 2

37.3: The first actual penalty of the game went to the Avalanche. Jarome Iginla received two minutes for holding to give Edmonton the game’s first power play.

2:41: On a delayed penalty, Colorado struck with the extra attacker to regain the lead. MacKinnon spotted Rene Bourque in the slot with a nice cross-ice pass. Bourque made no mistake, one-timing the puck past Talbot to make it 2-1. | COL 2, EDM 1

5:40: A fortunate bounce created a two-on-one situation with Zack Kassian and Anton Slepyshev. Kassian elected to shoot and Varlamov made a nice glove stop to steer the puck into the corner.

7:30: Shots on goal are 10-5 for the Oilers.

8:32: Jesse Puljujarvi had the puck in the slot after a nice quick setup for Milan Lucic and Connor McDavid but tried to pass instead of shoot and the puck got knocked out of harm’s way.

11:15: Less than three minutes later, the Oilers got that goal back. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins pounced on a loose puck and rifled it past Avalanche starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov to get the game back on even terms. | EDM 1, COL 1

14:10: Colorado got on the board early. Only 4:50 in, Nathan MacKinnon blazed down the right wing side and at the right circle dot, he wristed a seeing-eye shot top shelf past Talbot to put the home team on the board first. | COL 1, EDM 0

16:35: The best chance of the game early on came when Matthew Benning had the puck at the right circle with a clear path to the net but his shot went wide.

20:00: Tonight’s game is now underway.
