SECOND OVERTIME

6:58: IN OOOOOOOVERTIMEEEEEEE! JOSH CURRIE! What a time to score your first of the playoffs and keep your team’s season alive. Currie one times home off Benson’s pass from the corner to send us back to San Diego on Monday for Game 6.

10:03: Glass takes offence to Malone getting in the dirty area in front of goal, then gets grazed by his stick then flops to the ice to draw a call that the referees overturn after a conference at the penalty box.

12:00: WHAT A CHANCE, AND WHAT A SAVE! You have to hand it to Glass, who stretched out and robbed Patrick Russell and the Condors of the winner created by Bouchard’s pass on a partial 2-on-0. Malone couldn’t get a handle on the rebound.

14:00: Gambardella nearly goes end to end with a few nice dangles before being cut off by the Gulls defenceman. Shots 44-39 in favour of San Diego.

16:43: Snap save by Glass off Kulevich’s effort right off the draw.

20:00: We’re underway for the second overtime period.

A little bit of history in this one.

FIRST OVERTIME

0.0: First overtime didn’t do it, so we’ll go another 20 minutes in search for a winner.

2:26: Off the turnover at Bakersfield’s blue line, Roy’s shot is squeezed by Skinner and frozen. Teams starting to get more conservative here in the final minutes of OT.

6:27: Logan Day, despite switching back to defence, looked like a forward after jumping up in the play, undressing the Gulls defender, and having his shot stopped up high by Glass. What a goal that would’ve been.

9:48: First timeout comes after plenty of action in the opening 10 minutes of this first overtime.

11:42: Roy strikes iron for the Gulls, who came oh so close to ending this series right there.

13:00: Malone’s shot squeezes through Glass and roles inches past the post.

14:17: MASSIVE SAVE SKINNER! Condors go the other way and Gambardella’s drive to the net comes tantalizingly close! This is elimination hockey.

18:06: Hebig drops to Benson skating into the Gulls zone and Glass makes the quick low pad save.

20:00: Let’s play some high-stakes bonus hockey, tied 1-1 heading into sudden death.

THIRD PERIOD

0:0: For the third time this series, we’re heading to overtime. Both clubs have one win in extra time, but this time around it’ll mean San Diego advancing or Bakersfield staying alive.

1:06: Oh so close. Brad Malone with a great pass in front for Russell, but the Dane can only get a small piece of it to send the chance wayward.

3:21: We’re in the closing stages now, still level 1-1 with survival on the line for Bakersfield.

6:36: Gulls in the clear.

8:37: A critical power play comes for the Condors in the final 10 minutes with Sam Carrick heading to the box for tripping. First line PP having a long talk before the faceoff.

10:20: OFF THE LINE! Stanton makes the big defensive play and bails out his netminder. The puck sat dangerously in the crease, but the defender was able to clear the Gulls opportunity.

15:58: Hebig crashing the net to make something happen in his first appearance of the series. The puck from the point shot, fortunately for the Gulls, falls under Jeff Glass.

18:30: Big save Stuart Skinner early in this frame, dropping to his butterfly and denying Chase De Leo.

20:00: The third period of elimination Game 5 is off and running.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: All to play for as we hit the intermission. We’re deadlocked at 1-1 on the scoreboard and 19-19 on the shot clock with 20 minutes to play.

1:18: The Gulls read the Condors PP like a book and are easily able to eliminate the threat.

3:18: Gambardella breaks out with speed, crosses the Gulls blue line, and is chopped down. Condors back to the PP.

4:40: San Diego looked sharp on that power play working the puck around the Condors kill, but Bakersfield weathers the storm.

7:12: Tyler Benson with the slash and the Gulls head to the PP.

9:16: Gulls counter on a 3-on-2 and equalize. Kevin Roy finishes off the one-two passing play with Corey Tropp with Skinner slid out of position and we’re level at one. All new hockey game here half way through the second period. | BAK 1, SD 1

11:42: Second opportunity proves fruitless for Bakersfield, now 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

14:53: Another Condors PP comes after former Oiler Luke Gazdic gets the interference minor. Condors made good on their first opportunity earlier in the first.

20:00: Second period begins!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Buzzer sounds on the first frame and the Condors hold a one-goal lead thanks to Gambardella’s PP marker. Shots 10-8 in favour of the hosts.

6:35: Kulevich hooks Kevin Roy coming into the Condors zone and will sit two for hooking. San Diego 4-for-11 in the series on the power play.

9:30: GAMBOOOOO! Advantage Condors! Joe Gambardella deflects home Evan Bouchard’s wrist shot from the point on the power play for his fifth goal of the series and seventh point. Add a helper for Brad Malone, his 12th point of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs. | BAK 1, SD 0

11:01: Plenty of pressure leads to Welinski high sticking Josh Currie in the Gulls’ end. PP to the Condors!

12:58: What a chance for the Condors! Gust finds Benson open at the back post but the Edmonton product can’t get lumber on it. A great spell of possession in the offensive zone for Bakersfield.

16:27: Logan Day, asserting himself as a forward early tonight, gets in on the scramble in front on the Condors first strong test for Jeff Glass.

20:00: Condorstown is fired up. Game 5 is underway at Rabobank Arena!

Facing elimination, Head Coach Jay Woodcroft goes with a different look from yesterday’s Game 4 by injecting a number of fresh players into the lineup. Cameron Hebig makes his series debut alongside Ryan McLeod and Nolan Vesey, and Josh Currie moves to centre on the second line alongside Tyler Benson and Logan Day, who moves to forward from defence.

Stuart Skinner is the starter tonight in goal for Bakersfield after coming in as relief in the past two games in San Diego.
