0.0: San Jose hangs on to edge the Oilers in their final home game of the 2018-19 season by a score of 3-2. Edmonton will conclude the year Saturday against Calgary at Scotiabank Saddledome.

4:47: The Oilers put extended pressure on the Sharks with Draisaitl getting another shot off from the slot but it misses the cage. After the Sharks got a line change, Evander Kane attacked the zone and released a wrister that Stolarz squared up for.

8:25: Draisaitl encroaches shorthanded then tries to beat Dell’s blocker side but can’t get it past the goaltender.

9:43: Colby Cave takes a hooking minor.

11:42: The Oilers don’t convert on the power play but have the only shot of the third period.

18:54: Brenden Dillon takes a hooking penalty early in the third to give the Oilers a chance to find the equalizer on the power play.

20:00: The third period has begun.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Nyquist’s late marker puts the Sharks ahead by one to enter the final 20 minutes of play. Shots were 12-10 EDM in the second and are 22-20 San Jose overall.

5:58: With the crowd chanting “let’s go Rieder,” the German walks in from the wall and gets another crack at Dell, who thwarts his opportunity.

9:23: Timo Meier catches Andrej Sekera with a high hit in the Oilers zone, causing Milan Lucic to come to his defence. Lucic and Meier both get two minutes for roughing.

12:56: Barclay Goodrow slices his way to the Oilers net but Stolarz stands him up on his initial wrister then the rebound. The Oilers keeper has 14 saves tonight.

16:38: GOAL 49! Draisaitl gets a pass from Benning on a 2-on-1, holding the puck then slipping it low on Dell to score his 49th of the season and second of the night. The Sharks challenge the goal for offside after McDavid’s entry into the zone but deem it a good goal! 17:54: Matt Benning unloads a slap shot on Dell but the keeper gets acrobatic to keep it out.

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Draisaitl opens the scoring with his 48th but the Sharks reply with two straight, taking a 2-1 lead into the second. Shots are 12-9 San Jose after 20.

3:22: Joe Gambardella walks out from the corner and rifles a shot at Dell but the keeper pushes out to make the save.

5:40: The Oilers second power-play unit works the puck well in the O-zone, getting a few shots at Dell but failing to convert.

7:49: Pavelski trips Adam Larsson to give the Oilers their first man advantage of the night.

8:34: Tobias Rieder gains a step on a Sharks defender then walks in and tries to beat Dell far side but gets stopped.

9:56: Brent Burns walks in and wires a wrist shot back bar and out for his 15th of the year. Sharks take the lead, while the Oilers still just have a single shot on goal. | SJS 2, EDM 1
