10:18: Stolarz prevents Johnsson from getting the hat trick, squaring up to his deflection.
14:43: Stolarz stops Frederik Gauthier from just below the left dot.
19:35: John Tavares makes it 6-1, moving into the slot and ripping a one-timer blocker side on Stolarz. | TOR 6, EDM 1
20:00: The third period has begun with the Oilers killing 5-on-3.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Leafs come out with a four-goal second period, scoring three times in the opening five minutes of the frame to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the third.
8.1: Benning goes off for cross-checking. Toronto gets a 5-on-3 for 55 seconds.
1:13: Draisaitl gets called for high-sticking, ending Edmonton’s advantage.
2:48: Auston Matthews gets his stick up on Chiasson to warrant a high-sticking minor.
4:55: Andrej Sekera walks in from the point and misses the far side then Matt Benning fires a whistler high and wide.
8:01: Oscar Klefbom is robbed twice in succession on the doorstep.
11:51: Johnsson accepts a feed in the slot and slips the puck 5-hole on Stolarz to make it a 5-1 game. | TOR 5, EDM 1
13:21: Colby Cave interferes a Leaf at the offensive zone blueline and gets called for it. Toronto goes back to the man advantage.
15:10: William Nylander snipes the short side corner from a tough angle to give Toronto a three-goal lead. Brad Malone was hurt on the play and went straight to the Oilers dressing room. Koskinen is pulled, bringing in Anthony Stolarz, who makes his Oilers debut. | TOR 4, EDM 1
15:53: Nurse is called for slashing. The Leafs get a man advantage as they open the period with plenty of pressure.
17:34: Toronto strikes again. Kasperi Kapanen finds Andreas Johnsson ahead of the crease then goes backhand to put another one past Koskinen. | TOR 3, EDM 1
18:51: Mitch Marner deflects Zach Hyman’s shot-pass to give the Leafs an early 2-1 lead in the second frame. | TOR 2, EDM 1
20:00: The second period has begun.
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Tobias Rieder wheels his way up the wing and releases a backhander just before the horn sounds for the end of the period. The first period ends tied at 1-1, with the Oilers doubling the Leafs in shots 16-8.
1:58: Chiasson’s penalty expires just as Marleau pops home a rebound to knot the game up at 1-1. | EDM 1, TOR 1
4:03: Alex Chiasson gets two minutes for slashing. Leafs go to the power play.
7:05: The Oilers are all over the Leafs, out-shooting them 13-2 with just over seven minutes remaining in the opening frame.
8:54: THE DEUTSCHLAND DANGLER! Leon Draisaitl undresses several Toronto Maple Leafs in a great individual effort, kicking the puck to his stick in-tight on Andersen to open the scoring. Draisaitl’s 39th of the year is his first point against the Leafs in his career and ties a career-high in points with 77. McDavid and Nurse get the helpers. | EDM 1, TOR 0
9:56: Milan Lucic dishes a net-front feed for Josh Currie, who gets stopped by Andersen’s pad. Currie draws a penalty, giving the Oilers their first power play tonight.
11:26: Few whistles in this one so far, with the Oilers not allowing a shot on goal until past the 12-minute mark. Toronto’s first shot was a high-quality chance, with Patrick Marleau busting through on a breakaway and going backhand only to be stopped by the glove of Koskinen.
18:35: The Oilers get the game’s first two shots on goal, with Darnell Nurse sending one at Frederik Andersen as McDavid was headed to the paint.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun. Connor McDavid’s homecoming is on the same day he returns to the Oilers lineup after serving a two-game suspension.
