39.2: Talbot heads to the bench as the Oilers look for the tying goal at 6-on-5. Hitchcock calls a timeout.

4:21: Adam Larsson zips one at Kuemper and the keeper gobbles it up.

5:18: Talbot shuts the door on Hinostroza with his pad to keep Edmonton within one late.

13:48: Oilers are still down by a goal as they look to knot it up versus the Desert Dogs. Shots are 25-21 ‘Yotes.

18:06: And they score. Another bounce goes the way of the Coyotes, with the recipient being Garland once again. A point shot hits the end glass then hits Garland’s foot in front of the net to go in. Arizona takes the lead. | ARI 3, EDM 2

18:10: Brodziak gets two minutes for tripping. Oilers go to the PK.

20:00: The third period has begun.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Russell squares the game up with his second of the year as the ‘Yotes and Oilers enter the third period deadlocked at 2-2. Edmonton is 7-3-1 when tied after 40 while Arizona is 4-4-1.

2:20: Mario Kempe is called for tripping, sending the Oilers to the power play for the first time tonight. Edmonton will try to beat the League’s best penalty kill as the ‘Yotes sit at an 88.5 percent kill rate this season.

3:00: RUSTY! Russell corrals Nugent-Hopkins’ centring pass, shows some patience then puts the puck behind Kuemper to notch the equalizer. Russell’s goal is his second of the season and ninth point, with the assists going to Nugent-Hopkins and Lucic. | EDM 2, ARI 2

6:46: Talbot slides across to stymie Arizona’s leading scorer Clayton Keller, keeping it a one-goal game with over six to play in the second stanza.

9:56: Hitchcock makes changes to his lines, doling Leon Draisaitl back out with McDavid in replace of Nugent-Hopkins.

11:14: Kyle Brodziak gets a piece of Caleb Jones’ point shot but Kuemper negates the attempt.

15:20: Jujhar Khaira passes to Jesse Puljujarvi in the slot and the Finn’s shot is stopped by Kuemper.

16:52: Coyotes score again on a scary play. Oesterle fired a point shot that hit Garland in the face and bounced in. The goal is Garland’s seventh of the season. | ARI 2, EDM 1

18:44: Arizona comes out with some early pressure, punctuating the play with a howitzer from former Oiler Jordan Oesterle to beat Talbot. Hitchcock called a coach’s challenge for offside on the play but it was deemed onside by the refs after video review. Edmonton gets a bench minor for delay of game as a result of losing the challenge. | EDM 1, ARI 1

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Oilers get the lone goal of the period thanks to McDavid’s breakaway beauty. Shots are 13-11 after 20.

6:30: Talbot jumps out through a maze of bodies to eat Conor Garland’s clapper from the slot. Darnell Nurse later misses the net on a 3-on-2 with Leon Draisaitl and Milan Lucic.

9:38: Shots are 8-8 halfway through the opening frame.

13:14: CAPTAIN CONNOR! On the top line’s third shift of the night, Rattie feeds McDavid and the Captain rushes in all alone, slipping the puck low on Kuemper. That’s the 27th goal of the season for 97 and his 67th point. Rattie gets the lone helper. | EDM 1, ARI 0

14:39: Connor McDavid finds Ty Rattie with some room on the wing and he fires a wrister high and wide on Darcy Kuemper. Oilers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said he would keep that first line together for the first shift tonight but that was the second from 93-97-8.

16:53: DAD-BOT! Cam Talbot squares up to Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s blast then denies Vinnie Hinostroza on the rebound.

19:30: Kris Russell makes his presence felt with a huge hit on Richard Panik in the game’s first shift.
