1:56: THE DOC! Darnell Nurse finishes the play with his second of the season. That’s the third Dman to score this game. McDavid and Draisaitl register assists to make it three points apiece tonight. | EDM 6, MTL 2

3:38: Niemi makes a standout save on Draisaitl to keep the forward from scoring his second of the game. He’s also hit two posts tonight.

4:10: Chiasson and Brendan Gallagher feed each other some lumber.

7:46: RUSTY! Kris Russell’s point shot finds its way through a maze of bodies. He records his first of the campaign and fifth point. | EDM 5, MTL 2

8:30: Koskinen stops Agostino’s backhander.

14:24: NUUUUGE! Strome feeds Nugent-Hopkins with an outlet pass then he does the rest, weaving in through the offensive zone and sniping low blocker. That’s his fourth of the year and 18th point, this one coming while he plays centre. | EDM 4, MTL 2

17:38: The Habs put the Oilers on their heels early in the third. Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s toe-drag is stopped but Agostino follows it up with a clapper that goes out of play.

20:00: The third period is under way!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Oscar Klefbom makes a great defensive effort to disrupt Domi on a partial breakaway. Oilers up 3-2 after 40 minutes, outshooting the Habs 29-17.

1:31: Oilers carrying the play. Draisaitl gets stoned by Niemi’s blocker off another 2-on-1 with McDavid. Ryan Strome later pulls, drags and releases a wrister that the keeper snares.

6:24: Niemi robs Nugent-Hopkins from the left circle. Juulsen’s clearing attempt goes out of play all the way at the Oilers end. He gets called for delay of game. Edmonton’s power play continues.

8:18: Kenny Agostino goes off for hooking. Edmonton up a man for the next two minutes.

8:45: Koskinen gloves Schlemko’s knuckle puck. Shots are 20-16 Oil.

13:36: Edmonton mounts extended pressure in the Habs’ zone but Zack Kassian’s hit behind the net warrants an interference call. Montreal goes to the PP.

16:55: EVERYBODY LOVES THE DRAKE! Alex Chiasson’s slap shot is stopped by Niemi but the rebound pops up into the air. Caggiula grabs it, places it on the ice and whips it at the net, getting the bouncing puck to flutter through Niemi. Chiasson gets his first assist of the year and Caggiula nets his sixth goal. | EDM 3, MTL 2

18:50: Andrew Shaw deposits Jonathan Drouin’s net-front backhand feed. Canadiens erase another Oilers lead. | EDM 2, MTL 2

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Oilers end the period by killing Larsson’s tripping minor. The home side outshoots the visitors 11-7, gaining a two-goal lead off Benning’s first of the season and Draisaitl’s 11th.

2:26: Adam Larsson gets called for tripping. Habs go to the power play.

3:29: CONNOR TO LEON! McDavid skates through David Schlemko’s check then puts the puck on Draisaitl’s tape for an easy forehand one-touch past Niemi. That’s Draisaitl’s 11th of the season and 19th point. With two apples on the night, McDavid is up to 25 points. | EDM 2, MTL 1

6:03: Caggiula threads it to Draisaitl within the O-zone and he skates through the slot uncontested, releasing a shot that hits the same post as a few minutes ago.

11:07: McDavid sets up Draisaitl in the slot but his shot hits the post. Mikko Koskinen stops Artturi Lehkonen at the other end of the rink.

14:15: Juulsen steps out the box and forces a turnover, sending Max Domi in on the rush. He snipes far side from the left dot to tie it up early. | EDM 1, MTL 1

16:21: Oilers go to the man advantage now, as Noah Juulsen goes off for hooking.

16:47: ET LE BUT! Matt Benning hammers a slap shot from the point and it hits the end boards then catches a bounce off the back of Niemi’s leg to get past the goal-line. That’s his first of the season. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl get the helpers. | EDM 1, MTL 0

17:16: Oilers get the game’s first chance. Kevin Gravel’s point shot is tipped in front by Ty Rattie, almost fooling goaltender Antti Niemi but the puck goes wide of the net.
