3:00: McLellan pulls Talbot for the extra man with three minutes still to play.

5:04: Saros preserves the shutout bid by keeping the Oilers power play from scoring. Jesse Puljujarvi now takes a penalty.

7:47: Evan Bouchard lets a wrister go and then all sorts of chaos ensues in front of Saros but he shuts the door.

9:02: Oilers back to the PP after Johansen hooks McDavid.

14:05: McLellan doles out Draisaitl with RNH and McDavid for a shift.

15:26: Mattias Ekholm walks in from the point but his backhander is gobbled up by Talbot.

17:44: Chiasson and Dan Hamhuis go into the end boards awkwardly. Hamhuis takes the worst of it, getting to his feet slowly.

18:09: Oilers come out with some gusto to begin the third, carrying much of the play in the Preds’ end.

20:00: The third period is under way.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Subban and Arvidsson strike in the second, giving the visitors a 2-0 edge to enter the final 20 minutes of play. Shots are 18-13 Nashville.

1:02: Oilers kill the penalty then Kailer Yamamoto almost intercepts a pass inside the O-zone but the Preds avert any danger.

4:02: Talbot gloves down Roman Josi’s blast.

4:48: Oilers defender Jason Garrison is now called for interference. Preds get a power play.

5:18: Preds add another quick one. Arvidsson takes Nick Bonino’s feed and slides it under Talbot. He has four goals in the last four meetings between the two teams. | NSH 2, EDM 0

6:46: Subban keeps the puck on a 2-on-1 and beats Talbot. Preds open the scoring shorthanded. | NSH 1, EDM 0

7:28: Connor McDavid feeds Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at the side of the net but he doesn’t get all of it on his shot. Johansen then gets called for slashing. Oilers back on the PP.

11:42: Special teams remain mute tonight as the Preds thwart the Oilers power play.

14:16: P.K. Subban gets called for interference 200 feet from his own end, giving the Oilers their second man-advantage of the night.

14:31: Nashville’s top line of Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson hem the Oilers in their zone but every attempt at the net is stopped by Talbot.

16:19: Larsson lets one fly from the point with Zack Kassian on the doorstep. Saros squeezes the puck.

17:04: The Preds come out on the hunt for a goal in the second, prowling around the Oilers zone.

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Oilers kill two penalties and fail to convert on their lone man-advantage. Talbot makes seven first-period stops as the two sides will enter the second in a scoreless draw.

2:56: The Preds play around in the Oilers zone but Edmonton does a good job of keeping them to the outside. Shots are 6-4 in favour of Nashville.

6:56: The Orange & Blue kill Lucic’s penalty, then go to work at the other end, drawing a Nashville penalty. During the delayed call, Leon Draisaitl got two cracks at the net but missed the cage far side. Oilers are 2-for-2 on the PK and will get their first shot at a man-advantage next.

8:51: Talbot remains sharp, kicking aside Ryan Ellis’ one-timer.

10:13: Edmonton goes back to the kill after Milan Lucic takes a cross-checking minor.

12:13: Cam Talbot makes a huge stop on Kyle Turris’ one-timer, helping the Oilers kill Russell’s minor. Shots are 3-2 Oilers.

15:11: Ryan Strome tests Juuse Saros early, slamming away at the puck after Alex Chiasson forced it to the net. Kris Russell is later called for interference, giving the Preds their first power play of the game.

20:00: Tonight’s game has begun!
