THIRD PERIOD
0.0: FRANTIC FINISH WITH HYMAN GETTING TWO CHANCES IN FRONT BUUUUUUT… The Flames survive. Vladar holds on at the end with some big saves to win it for Calgary, who improves to 2-0-0 with the 5-4 victory in the Battle of Alberta at Rogers Place. Too little, too late for the Oilers who fell behind 4-1 and fought back but couldn’t tie the game. See you back here Tuesday, when the Oilers host the Buffalo Sabres in the third game of this six-game homestand to open the season.
1:00: Edmonton net empty!
2:44: Evan Bouchard SHOOTS but Vladar eats up the open look. Not many of those chances left for Edmonton.
5:00: Less than five minutes to go and the Flames are looking to lock things down. Calgary with a 40-25 shot advantage but they’re only one goal ahead.
12:29: Georges Laraque comes up on the big screen and gets the fans FIRED UP!
12:29: The Oilers are rewarded with a powerplay after some excellent pressure in search of the tying goal. Dillon Dube trudges off for tripping.
16:16: SKINNNNNERRRRR! We haven’t mentioned him enough since coming into the game in relief. He’s been fantastic with 20 saves.
17:06: Right before the whistle is blown as Skinner covers it, Brett Kulak gets the stick up on Rasmus Andersson coming through. That’ll be two minutes in the box.
20:00: The third period begins NOW!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Period over! Well that was better, but we still trail by a goal after goals from McLeod and McDavid. All-important final 20 minutes ahead.
4:24: Our recent goalscorer is now in the box for slashing. All sorts of emotions for Clouder in the last half-minute.
5:02: UP IN THE CLOUDS!!! One-goal game! Ryan Murray carries it low, sends it back in front from behind the Calgary net, and Ryan McLeod buries it up top on Vladar for his first of the season! Right. Back. In. It. | CGY 4, EDM 3

9:14: McDAVID MAKES IT 4-2!!! Evander Kane delivered a sick no-look dish to the captain, who put it past Vladar from a tight angle to make it a two-goal game. Draisaitl made the initial feed from the halfboards for his second assist of the night! | CGY 4, EDM 2

10:20: Blake Coleman thought he had a clean steal on Leon Draisaitl, but the back official calls the Flames forward for hooking much to his displeasure. Nonetheless, it’s an Oilers PP — their third of the night after going 0-for-2 on the first two chances.
16:22: The Oilers have come out on the front foot in this period, with six shots and nearly all the offensive zone time.
20:00: Game on!
Second period starts now.

FIRST PERIOD
0.0: No two ways about it — that was a rough period. Cody Ceci tied the game at 1-1, but the Flames score three unanswered to lead 4-1 through 20 minutes.
3:04: Evander Kane draws a crosscheck from Milan Lucic in the offensive zone. The Oilers will have the man advantage at their disposal to get back into this one.
5:35: Zach Hyman runs over Andersson at the Oilers bench and gets called for boarding. Flames head to the PP.
7:55: Elias Lindholm nearly had another in close cutting to the net but he puts it off the iron. The Oilers need to find their feet here and find the puck, as there’s been a few moments of carelessness around the puck.
Woodcroft goes with Kane-McDavid-Draisaitl with an OZ faceoff following a TV timeout. The Oilers badly need a spark.

9:42: Mangia-PAIN. The Flames forward bats one past Campbell from down low and that’ll be the end of his night. Stuart Skinner comes into the Oilers crease in relief, down three. | CGY 4, EDM 1
12:19: Brett Kulak blows a tire and it’s costly. Nazem Kadri takes advantage of the fall and comes in alone to slide it five-hole on Campbell. Two-Goal Flames lead. | CGY 3, EDM 1
To recap, #Flames scored on two rebounds, a breakaway and a shot through traffic. Campbell not sharp, but not getting much help in front of him. #Oilers #NHL

13:19: The Oilers are charged with a Too Many Men penalty.
14:29: Rasmus Andersson falls with Connor McDavid rushing up the ice and he’s forced into giving him a slash that’s called by the official. It’ll be a 4-on-3 for the Oilers after Brad Malone and Nick Ritchie were given minor penalties earlier off a faceoff.
15:26: Michael Stone pings one in off the post through traffic. Three early goals in this hockey game are making for a roller-coaster start. | CGY 2, EDM 1
16:42: CECI WRIST SHOT… SCORES!!! It pops out to the defender all alone in the slot and he WIRES it glove side on Dan Vladar. Quick response! Kailer Yamamoto and Leon Draisaitl pick up helpers. Welcome back, Yams! | EDM 1, CGY 1
