THIRD PERIOD
0.0: ALL SQUARE IN THE SERIES!!! What a statement win and response from the Edmonton Oilers, who take Game 2 by a 6-0 scoreline in front of the fifth-career shutout in the playoffs from Mike Smith who was excellent with 30 saves. Evander Kane has the three-point night to lead the way offensively, and Edmonton shows some diversity in their scoring with a PPG, SHG, and ES goal. Off to Los Angeles we go for Game 3 on Friday night — the first of two in the City of Angels. See you then!
2:14: A scrum behind the Oilers net leads to Brendan Lemieux taking a roughing penalty. Back to the PP we go late in this one.
4:15: Puljujarvi called for hooking.
8:05: FILTHY KANE SNIPE!!! The second powerplay unit getting some extra work with the Oilers up by five, and they make it six. Kane walks down towards goal inside the circle and unleashes a deadly snapshot top shelf. Evan Booooouchard with another helper, along with Ryan McLeod who gets an assist. Three-point night for Evander. | EDM 6, LAK 0
9:05: Warren Foegele is hauled down by Quinton Byfield. Another chance to make some magic with the powerplay for Edmonton.
9:49: Puck takes a CRAZY hop and nearly goes in on a Kings dump-in after Smith came out of the crease to play it.
16:37: BISON KINGGGGG!!! Just 21 seconds later, Evander Kane creates the play that leads to McDavid passing off to Puljujarvi to wire one into the net past a sliding Quick, who didn’t even bother raising his glove with so much venom on the shot. | EDM 5, LAK 0
16:58: KANER!!! HOW?!? Evander tries to chip it over a defenceman and head towards the Kings net as he enters the zone, but as it’s bouncing through the air it strikes the stick of Sean Durzi and fools Quick, who was coming out of his net to play it. Sometimes, it just goes your way. His first of the playoffs! | EDM 4, LAK 0
20:00: The third period has begun!
Oilers score:

3:55: CLOUD DEFLECTION!!! The Oilers have their third via a terrific deflection by Ryan McLeod, who despite being tied up in the slot, gets a stick to Evan Bouchard’s wrist shot from the point and sents it back across Quick. Kassian, who’s been a force this evening with his checking, has an offensive return for his efforts with the secondary assist. | EDM 3, LAK 0
12:30: CROSSBAR FROM BOUCHARD!!! Then one play later Yamamoto sends a tantalizingly-close effort through the crease and out the other way after it bounced to him from the point! All Oilers here in the middle frame!
13:57: DOCTOR ON DUTY!!! TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!!! The Oilers wheel away shorthanded as Connor McDavid kicks it out wide and Darnell Nurse picks his spot below the left arm of Quick for his FIRST-EVER PLAYOFF GOAL! It’s a two-goal Edmonton advantage, with one coming on the PP and one on the kill. | EDM 2, LAK 0
15:41: After two Edmonton advantages, Yamamoto takes a slashing penalty to even up the opportunites. Kings to the PP here 4:19 into the third.
Leon Draisaitl’s 1.26 points per game in the playoffs
is 4th best in Oilers history— Sportsnet Stats (@SNstats) May 5, 2022
18:11: Slew foot from Arthur Kaliyev on Warren Foegele! Back to the PP Edmonton goes almost immediately after the go-ahead goal.
18:38: DRAI UP HIGH!!! EDMONTON TAKES THE LEAD, and who else on the powerplay? It’s Leon Draisaitl from The Spot™️ sniping a dirty one-timer top shelf on Jonathan Quick. What a rocket. Tyson Barrie delivered the primary feed from the blueline down to the German after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins got the defender the puck. | EDM 1, LAK 0
19:24: Former Oiler Andreas Athanasiou takes out Smith, sending Edmonton to its first powerplay! The Oilers were 2-for-4 with the man advantage on Monday.
20:00: We are GO FOR THE SECOND PERIOD!

6:28: Another, Big. Kill. The Oilers had some help from the post, however, after Alex Iafallo’s backhand hit the C-bar and came back off of Smith.
8:28: Edmonton heads back to the penalty kill, this time’s Duncan Keith for cross-checking Trevor Moore in the defensive end.
11:16: MASSIVE KILL BY THE SPECIAL TEAMS!
13:16: Connor McDavid takes Mikey Anderson hard into the board in the corner, earning a boarding penalty in the process. Darnell Nurse and Sean Durzi also take coincidental minors for roughing after the commotion. The Oilers penalty kill was 4-for-4 on Monday so we’ll see if they can keep that going.
16:22: Kopitar’s shot off the zone entry nearly trickles through Mike Smith, but Darnell Nurse was there to clear it out of danger in the crease.
16:54: Oilers start this game with some intensity and ROUGH STUFF, as Kassian delivers a good check and then Warren Foegele mixes it up in front after a whistle. LFG.
20:00: GAME ON IN GAME 2!!! Let’s even this thing up with the fans behind us.
