THIRD PERIOD

0.0: OILERS WIN!!! Edmonton downs the reigning Stanley Cup champions 4-1 to win back-to-back games and earn two valuable points against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

2:14: YAMAMOTO TAP IN!!! Kane sends it the length of the ice and just misses the empty net, but Yamamoto follows up the full-ice shot for an easy goal to seal the victory for the Oilers against the two-time Stanley Cup champions. | EDM 4, TBL 1

3:01: Tampa Bay pulls Elliott for the extra attacker!

6:01: Foegele draws a hold on Bogosian. Great hustle to draw the call.

7:08: DRAI DRAI DRAI!!! It’s 39 goals this campaign for #29 after the German turned it over at the Oilers blueline and went in alone before sliding it five-hole under Elliott to restore the Oilers two-goal advantage after a HUGE penalty kill minutes before. | EDM 3, TBL 1

8:18: A monstrous kill from the Oilers penalty kill!

9:41: Cody Ceci hooks Kucherov. Tampa Bay will have an extended look at 5-on-3.

10:18: Bogosian squeezes one under the arm of Koskinen after two massive hits from Kassian and Malone. After the Lightning goal, a melee ensues including Archibald dropping the gloves with Sergachev. Malone is going to take the extra two minutes and Tampa Bay will have a powerplay after cutting the Oilers lead to 2-1.

12:56: Josh Archibald NEARLY had his goal in his return after Brad Malone put a shot off the pad of Elliott intentionally on a 2-on-1, but he hit the post with the follow-up shot.

16:51: Derek Ryan goes hard to the net and gets hooked by Ryan McDonagh. SIXTH Oilers powerplay coming up.

20:00: The final frame is UNDERWAY!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers lead by two after that late McDavid PP marker. Just 20 minutes left to solidify these two huge points.

44.1: RIDICULOUS SNIPE!!! McDavid has all the time from the left circle to pick the top-left corner on Brian Elliott for his second of the game and 32nd on the season, doubling the Oilers advantage right before the second intermission. The Oilers man advantage finally gets one tonight after having five opportunities on the powerplay. Barrie picks up his second assist, while Draisaitl gets a PP helper. | EDM 2, TBL 0

2:16: Jan Rutta has to trip Evander Kane after the Oilers forward got by him at the blueline. He doesn’t like it, but he’ll sit for two minutes. Fifth powerplay for Edmonton.

3:12: Inspired shift from Edmonton’s second line who opened up the seams with some nice passing and movement off the puck.

4:57: Yamamoto slides the puck into space for McDavid to pick up and take on a partial break, but he was forced onto his backhand and couldn’t generate a good enough shot.

11:08: Mikhail Sergachev hits Yamamoto hard along the end boards, but it’s a bit too much for the official, who calls it roughing. Edmonton heads to their fourth power play!

12:33: Warren Foegele looked to have sniped one right under the bar, but it didn’t cross the line. Had the entire rink fooled on that one, but not the referee below the goal line.

18:29: Darnell Nurse slashes Brayden Point in on the hands for a two-minute infraction.

19:20: Ryan McLeod dipsy-doodles into the Lightning zone and whips a quick snap shot off the crossbar.

20:00: The second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: It was a slow burn t0o begin the game, but McDavid lit the fireworks alight with the opening goal as Edmonton outshot the reigning champs 19-8 in that opening period.

1:24: Nikita Kucherov delivers an elbow to McDavid in the neutral zone. Edmonton will have 1:24 of power-play time before hte intermission.

3:21: Coach Woodcroft elects to use his 30-second timeout.

3:43: Mathieu Joseph thought he could close his hand on the puck and clear it. Negative. The Oilers will have 31 seconds of a 5-on-3.

5:12: Pure relentlessness for McDavid pursuing the puck and getting a couple shots off in close before drawing a hooking penalty. Zach Bogosian heads off and Edmonton goes on its first power play.

9:14: Duncan Keith heads to the box for hooking.

9:58: SIGNATURE CONNOR!!! We haven’t seen a McDavid goal like that in a while. The Captain found himself 1-on-1 with Victor Hedman, and the former Norris winner and candidate for this year’s Defenceman of the Year knew he was beaten when McDavid took him wide, beat him with speed, and beat Brian Elliott at the far post to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. Kailer Yamamoto and Tyson Barrie pick up assists on McDavid’s 31st of the season. | EDM 1, TBL 0
