THIRD PERIOD
0.0: Hurricanes hang on to take the 2-1 victory. The Oilers fought hard but come up short in their effort to tie the game and earn at least a point and drop to 1-2-0 on this five-game road trip. After three games against the beasts of the Southeast, Edmonton heads to Philadelphia to face the Flyers on Tuesday evening.
23.5: Head Coach Jay Woodcroft will take his timeout with an offensive zone draw coming for the Oilers.
1:25: Oilers pull Smith for the extra attacker.
4:31: DOWNNNNNNN the stretch we come here in Raleigh.
6:20: Benson with a great look before Colton Sceviour nearly banks it in for the tying goal off the skate of Andersen! At the other end, Smith has to come up with a big save to stop Svechnikov on a clear-cut chance.
12:13: Great Oilers pressure forces Andersen into a good glove save on Nurse’s wrist shot from the point.
14:02: Kane tries to find Draisaitl at the back door on a 2-on-1 and it nearly deflects into Carolina’s goal off a defenceman. He hit that pass yesterday to Ryan with great effect.
16:54: Foegele with a turn-around shot that’s squeezed between the pads of Andersen. Oilers hold the overall lead in shots 24-22 now.
20:00: The final frame is UNDERWAY!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Oilers outshoot the Hurricanes 14-5 and get a goal back in the middle frame to trail 2-1 to the Eastern Conference leaders heading into the third period.
3:59: Hard shift sees Hyman draw a hooking penalty, sending Edmonton to their fourth powerplay!
12:33: We are back underway after an 11-minute delay. Felt like an intermission.
12:33: If you’re wondering where the updates are, we are undergoing 🛠️ GLASS MAINTENANCE 🛠️ here in Raleigh.
Can you tell Derek Ryan is playing with confidence? A great play to bring the Oilers within one.
That’s his fifth goal and eighth point in nine games (including today) since the coaching change. #Oilers

15:37: STAY HOT DEREK RYAN 🔥 After recording his first hat-trick yesterday, he’s there again this time to beat Andersen five-hole on a breakaway after shaking off a grab from a Carolina defenceman. That’s 12 points in his last 17 games, and it’s a one-goal game. | CAR 2, EDM 1
16:57: Brett Pesce rips one by Smith, but the Oilers are going to review this one for offside. Much like the Hurricanes early in the game, it’s successful. NO GOAL.
20:00: The second period is on! Good news: Connor McDavid is on the ice!
Tough period for Edmonton.
• Score early. Called back
• Lose McDavid. Wait & see if he comes back out. For now, without 97, 93, 56, 13 & 44 up front
• Three penalties against Top-5 PP. 1 PPG for CAR
• Outshot 16-8. Tough to fault Smith on both – excellent plays.#Oilers

36.5: Svechnikov takes a roughing call behind the play after Darnell Nurse gave him a good hit. Oilers powerplay!
3:07: Aho buries his seventh goal in four games against the Oilers on the powerplay to make it a two-goal game. | CAR 2, EDM 0
4:03: Too Many Men on the Oilers after Leon Draisaitl sends it from the offensive-zone corner all the way to the Oilers bench. Third Carolina powerplay coming up.
6:00: Ryan gets stoned on a shorthanded breakaway by Andersen!
6:53: Barrie gets involved in a grappling match with Niederreiter and gets called for holding the stick (?). Soft call. His second minor sends the Hurricanes back to the PP.
8:03: Terrific feed by Svechnikov sets up Teuvo Teravainen to score the opening goal in the slot. | CAR 1, EDM 0
10:20: Carolina shows they’re worthiness of the top penalty kill in the NHL by quelling the Oilers extended powerplay.
14:20: Brady Skjei smacks Connor McDavid up high with a high stick. That’ll be a double minor as the captain heads to the dressing room to get some repairs. 4-on-3 Oilers power play for 1:01 of play.
15:25: Derek Ryan, the hottest Oilers forward right now, rattles the post. Andersen’s been beaten twice already today despite no goal against. Seconds later, Ryan McLeod and Vincent Trochek take coincidental minors to set up some 4-on-4 hockey.
16:33: Mike Smith makes a good double save on Martin Necas and Nino Niederreiter at the end of that Canes powerplay.
18:33: Tyson Barrie interferes with Andrei Svechnikov and will head off for two minutes. Not even two minutes into this game, we have a few shifts in momentum.
19:09: Connor McDavid puts the Oilers ahead but Carolina successfully challenges for offside. Warren Foegele, the former Cane, jumped the gun at the other end.
20:00: PUCK DROP IN RALEIGH!
20:00: The Oilers aim to make it back-to-back victories on Sunday against Carolina after earning a terrific 4-3 win in Sunrise on Saturday afternoon over the Florida Panthers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not be in the lineup due to an upper-body injury he sustained in the second period of Saturday’s win, along with Kailer Yamamoto, who blocked a shot in the third period vs. Florida. Mike Smith gets the start in goal for the Oilers after Mikko Koskinen turned in 44 saves the afternoon prior.
Check below for the full Oilers lineup, which will be confirmed during warm-ups.
