THIRD PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers mounted a late surge, getting a pair of goals from McDavid, but fall 5-3 to the Lightning in the first game of their five-game road trip. The trip won’t get much easier, as they head to Sunrise, FL to begin back-to-back matinee games against the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes.

3.6: Kucherov into the empty net in the dying seconds. Game over. | TBL 5, EDM 3

56.4: DRAISAITL OFF THE POST!

1:43: Nurse with an amazing burst of speed to beat Hedman wide, but he can’t solve Vasilevskiy! Oilers pull Smith for the extra attacker!

4:43: Oilers pressing and Yamamoto gets a backhand chance into the crest of Vasilevskiy before taking some rough stuff from Brayden Point. Going to be a great finish here at Amalie Arena.

9:21: How did that not go in?! Benson finds Yamamoto at the backdoor for a tap-in, but somehow, Vasilevskiy gets the pad to it.

10:21: DAVO ON THE DOUBLE!!! Draisaitl shows great foot skills to kick it at the blueline to Hyman, who drops to McDavid to wire past Vasilevskiy for his second of the game. One-goal game with just over 10 minutes to go. | TBL 4, EDM 3

13:58: Back to full strength after a string of penalties in this one.

15:58: Aaaaand Evander Kane trips Ross Colton to give the Lightning a 4-on-3 advantage.

16:21: Victor Hedman takes a professional penalty by holding Ryan McLeod, who had the star d-man beaten for a breakaway if Hedman wouldn’t have held him up. We’ll play 4-on-4 for 55 seconds.

17:26: Yamamoto puts it over the glass for a Delay of Game penalty.

18:37: Terrific first shift for the Oilers top line. The onus is on Edmonton to push the pace here down two goals.

20:00: The third period has BEGUN!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Tampa scores twice before the Oilers get one back before the break through Hyman to trail 4-2 through 40 minutes.

2:48: GOT ONE BACK!!! Stay hot why don’t you, Zach Hyman? He’s got goals in five straight under Woodcroft and in six of his last seven games after accepting Draisaitl’s stretch pass and going forehand-backhand to pull the Oilers back within two. | TBL 4, EDM 2

4:36: Perry gets a stick on Mikhail Sergachev’s open look from the top of the circle on the powerplay to make it a three-goal game. Goal number 400 for Perry. | TBL 4, EDM 1

6:32: Just seconds after RNH gets out of the box, Draisaitl is called for tripping up Perry in the Oilers zone.

8:38: Nugent-Hopkins heads off for what looked like a pretty weak holding call. Hmmm. PP to the Lightning.

FIRST PERIOD

14.4: Quick response from the hosts. Puck goes off the stick of Lagesson from the shot by Stamkos to give the Lightning the lead before the intermission. | TBL 2, EDM 1

1:50: CONNOR McLASER!!! McDavid uses the screen provided by Hyman and beats Vasilevskiy clean from the right circle on the powerplay. Make it SIX straight games with a road goal for the captain and four straight games for the Oilers with a PPG. Tie game here before the break! | EDM 1, TBL 1

2:07: Steven Stamkos is heading to the box for interfering with McDavid in the neutral zone as the Oilers wheeled away with numbers. LAte PP opportunity for the boys in white.

8:03: Pat Maroon’s shot goes in off the skate of Devin Shore for his ninth of the season after Anthony Cirelli charged through the neutral zone and got the puck towards the Big Rig. Tampa leads.

10:00: After a flurry of chances in the opening minutes, shots are only 3-2 through the opening 10 minutes.

15:45: Vasilevskiy has stood up two clean looks for the Oilers from the same spot, this time Nugent-Hopkins, who’s playing in his 700th NHL game.

18:56: Coach Woodcroft loads up the top line with McDavid, Draisaitl, and Hyman for the opening shift and it leads to Hyman getting a clean open look on Vasilevskiy that he puts into the keeper’s chest. At the other end, Mathieu Joseph forces Smith into an early pad save with a deflection after Corey Perry put the puck towards net.
