THIRD PERIOD
0.0: STUART SHUTOUT!!! The Oilers netminder makes 20 saves behind goals from Foegele, Nurse and McDavid on Monday night to earn his first NHL shutout. THe Oilers improve to 25-28-3 heading into tomorrow’s conclusion of a California back-to-back against the Los Angeles Kings. See you then!
3:17: The Oilers seeing this one out for Skinner as time winds down…
10:39: Foegele heads back to the box for roughing after getting cut off tracking a puck low in the Sharks zone. A bit unfortunate that, but he got the hands up. Fifth man advantage for the Sharks.
18:10: CAPTAIN CONNOR!!! McDavid burns Brett Burns outside and quickly fires it five-hole after Bouchard unlocked him with a great feed from the defensive blueline to put him 1-on-1 with the Sharks defender. That’s number 24 on the season for #97. | EDM 3, SJ 0
20:00: The puck has dropped on the third period! Let’s close this thing out and head to LA with two points.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers are doubling up the Sharks 2-0 on the scoreboard and 25-12 on shots through 40 minutes.
4:17: Edmonton is unable to get anything going on this powerplay and will now play 4-on-4 after Hyman interferes with a Shark at the blueline.
6:14: McDavid goes flying in front of the Sharks bench after getting tripped up by Timo Meier before he delivers a follow-up slash to Kailer Yamamoto. The Oilers will head to their second PP of the night, and it’ll be for four minutes.
11:19: The Oilers get a 3-on-1 shorthanded but can’t get a shot off. Unfortunate, as the puck bobbled on Nurse before he dished it left to Nugent-Hopkins.
11:38: Foegele heads to the box for slashing.
14:34: Nothing able to come from the two-man advantage after Head Coach Jay Woodcroft gave both units half of the powerplay.
16:34: McDavid works hard to get into the Sharks zone and gets held on the way in. It’ll be a 5-on-3 advantage for 53 seconds.
17:41: Hyman gets tripped up by Jacob Middleton, sending the Oilers to their first powerplay!
19:45: The crowd at the SAP Center cheers when Evander Kane is hit early in the frame, then boo’s when he takes a good shot that forces a glove save from Reimer. Would love to see the guy get a goal tonight.
20:00: The second period is underway!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: AFTER ONE, The Oilers lead 2-0 over the Sharks. It was a tale of two halves in the opening 10 minutes as Edmonton shifts the momentum and scores twice in 1:05 through Warren Foegele and Darnell Nurse, who got credit for the second tally.
5:36: Nurse gets the stick up on Timo Meier to send the Sharks to their second PP of the night. The hosts had three shots on their first opportunity.
12:50: D-D-D-DEREK RYAN!!! Right off the faceoff, Ryan heads to the net and puts a good deflection on Darnell Nurse’s point shot for his fourth of the season and the second Oilers goal in just over a minute. | EDM 2, SJ 0
13:55: THE FOEG OF WAR!!! The puck takes a crazy double deflection off the stick of Derek Ryan before hitting the leg of Warren Foegele in front after Evan Bouchard put it on net from the point. That’s #37”s sixth of the year and first in 17 games. The Oilers take an early lead on their first shot of the game after the Sharks had an early 6-0 advantage in attempts at net. | EDM 1, SJ 0
16:17: BIG GLOVE by Skinner as he spreads out and denies Jonathan Dahlenon a wide-open chance in front!
18:12: Skinner opens the game with two good shorthanded saves from the left of his net. He’s won three of his last four starts and two straight on the road.
19:02: Puljujarvi gets involved with Logan Couture in front of the net and takes an interference call. Early PP for the Sharks.
