THIRD PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers drop their second straight game, losing 4-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks. DeBrincat nets three points and Fleury makes 40 stops to lead Chicago. The club will look to return to the win column Friday when they host the New York Islanders.

4:23: Shots in the third are 9-6 CHI.

10:24: Kirby Dach nets the puck far side from a tight angle. The ‘Hawks add another insurance marker. | CHI 4, EDM 1

12:11: Fleury kicks aside McDavid’s sneaky shot from the wing then his Blackhawks teammates avert the puck from danger. Edmonton remains in a two-goal hole near the midway mark of the 3rd.

14:54: Sam Lafferty is tagged with an interference minor now, sending the Oilers to the PP.

18:52: Strome deflects DeBrincat’s net-front pass to restore the two-goal advantage. | CHI 3, EDM 1

19:12: Draisaitl finishes a check on DeBrincat and is flagged for interference. Huge kill upcoming for the Oil.

20:00: The third period has begun!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Plenty of chances but nothing drops as the Oilers outshoot the Blackhawks 20-6 in the middle stanza. The club still trails by a single, however.

5:39: Caleb Jones gets his arm around Draisaitl, warranting a holding call. Another opportunity to pounce is incoming for the Oilers.

11:28: Edmonton’s Kane staples Hagel in the corner and gets two minutes for boarding. Chicago’s man advantage, which is 1-for-1 tonight, takes to the ice.

12:19: More injury woes as Kassian is caught high with a point shot. He gets up gingerly and makes his way to the bench to get some medical attention.

12:50: The Oilers announce that Duncan Keith (upper body) will not return to tonight’s match as the home side goes down to five defencemen.

13:57: ON THE BOARD! The Oilers generate all sorts of chaos in and around the net until Draisaitl eventually muscles the puck over the line to cut the deficit in half. He has 33rd goal and 64th point as a result. The assists go to Kane and McDavid. | CHI 2, EDM 1

15:45: Connor Murphy tussles with Kane in front of the Chicago net and inadvertently high sticks the Oilers forward. Murphy is directed to the box for two minutes and the Oilers get a man advantage.

18:24: Fleury starts the period by stoning Hyman from the side of the cage with a sublime trapper stop.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The first period closes with the Oilers down a pair after goals from DeBrincat and Hagel. Shots after 20 are 13-12 EDM.

1:02: A scary play ensues as Duncan Keith gets wrapped up with a Blackhawks skater and takes a hard slam into the boards. Keith immediately falls to the ice until he receives attention from Oilers Athletic Therapist T.D. Forss. The Oilers defender is helped up by his teammates and heads directly to the dressing room.

2:47: Glove is in the air! Smith flashes the leather on former Oilers rearguard Caleb Jones on a Grade-A chance from the slot.

4:43: Yamamoto shows some impressive footwork by kicking a pass through two Chicago players and up to Cody Ceci for a threatening chance from the wing. His 5-hole shot is held by Marc-André Fleury for the whistle.

8:06: Smith V. Strome II! Edmonton’s net-protector makes yet another glorious stop on Strome, this time getting enough of his wrister with the paddle to turn the dangerous attempt aside.

12:37: Mr. Smith! The Oilers keeper DENIES Dylan Strome from point-blank with his pad for the whistle. The Orange & Blue fail to convert on their first power play.

16:56: Blackhawks defender Seth Jones is shown the gate for slashing. Edmonton gets a chance to strike on the man advantage.

17:13: Brandon Hagel puts back a wrister in transition to give the visitors an early two-goal lead. He picks up his 13th of the year. | CHI 2, EDM 0

18:16: Patrick Kane goes cross-ice to Alex DeBrincat and he wires a one-timer in to open the scoring with his 27th of the season. | CHI 1, EDM 0

18:45: Post and out! McDavid feeds Hyman near the left circle and he lifts a backhander off the iron. Nugent-Hopkins is later called for tripping, giving the Blackhawks the first power play of the game.

20:00: Puck dropped! The Oilers look to rebound from Tuesday’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in their second game in as many nights.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman will move up to the top line with Connor McDavid while Evander Kane skates with Leon Draisaitl and Kailer Yamamoto. Ryan McLeod will wedge between Warren Foegele and Jesse Puljujarvi, and Devin Shore, Derek Ryan and Zack Kassian round out Line 4. Mike Smith will get his second straight start as he makes his eighth appearance of the season.
