0.0: PLAY LA BAMBA!!! It’s been a while since we’ve said that. The Oilers end a six-game losing skid in the final game of their six-game homestand thanks to a three-point night from Jesse Puljujarvi and 36 saves from Stuart Skinner, who earns his third win of the campaign in a 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets. We’re back in action on the road Saturday night in Seattle against the Kraken. We’ll see you then!

2:54: EMPTY NETTER!!! Puljujarvi doesn’t get his hat trick, but the Finn made a great long stretch pass to Foegele who walked in alone to score his third goal of the season. | EDM 5, CBJ 2

4:31: SWEPT OFF THE LINE BY SKINNER! Terrific save to keep it 4-1.

5:39: Puljujarvi just wide! This rink would’ve gone crazy if he put that cross-ice pass in.

13:32: Gustav Nyquist spoils the shutout bid with a backhand that beats a lunging Skinner. | EDM 4, CBJ 1

20:00: We are underway for the third! Joonas Korpisalo has replaced Merzlikins in the Columbus net.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Another heckin’ good period. We have 29 shots on the board, four goals, and full control of this one right now. Only 20 minutes to go to break this six-game slide.

3:19: LAMBORGHINI!!! Brendan Perlini delivers an absolute snipe to the top-right corner to post his first goal as an Edmonton Oiler and make it 4-0. In his first game back from Bakersfield after scoring two goals in two games with the Condors, the off-season pickup has a goal and assist tonight. It all started with a great play by Bouchard to earn the secondary assist, with Kassian getting the primary helper. | EDM 4, CBJ 0

4:19: Eric Robinson gets loose on a partial breakaway, but Evan Bouchard did well to close him down and make it an easy save for Skinner, who’s stopped all 20 shots.

6:14: Warren Foegele puts it through the legs of Jack Bean and gets interfered with to send the Oilers back to the man advantage! It’s been more or less a parade to the box for the Jackets, who’ve taken four minors.

9:03: McDavid picks up Puljujarvi’s pass and cuts through the Columbus defence, but can’t beat Merzlikins with two blueliners on his back before crashing into the net. The Captain looks to be fine, and we’ll head to the powerplay.

15:57: Texier gets taken down by Bouchard. That’ll be two minutes and a Columbus powerplay.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: That couldn’t have gone much better. After the opening 20 minutes, Edmonton leads 3-0 on the scoreboard and 14-10 on the shot clock.

4:14: Aaaaand just like that, Jenner evens it up by hooking Bouchard. Let’s play some 4-on-4.

4:30: Duncan Keith delivers a crosscheck to Boone Jenner and gets two minutes for his actions.

8:53: RY-GUY!!! We’re feeling it to begin this one. Derek Ryan takes a couple whacks at it in front and gets it through the legs of Elvis Merzlikins. It’s Ryan’s second goal of the season, and Brendan Perlini factors in with an assist to notch his first point as a member of the Blue & Orange. 11:50: HOW ABOUT ANOTHER?! Puljujarvi is Johnny on the Spot again, this time right around the crease, to finish off the tic-tac-toe passing play and make the Oilers a perfect 2-for-2 on the powerplay to begin this game. That’s double-digit goals for #98 this season now. | EDM 2, CBJ 0

12:36: POOLPARTY!!! Tyson Barrie’s one-timer off the pass from Leon Draisaitl goes wide, but the puck bounces right back in front for Puljujarvi to easily punch home the opening goal of the game. That’s goal #9 on the season for the Bison King. | EDM 1, CBJ 0

13:36: Right off the faceoff, McDavid gets loose and rings a backhand off the crossbar.

13:41: The Blue Jackets take TWO minors in the same shift to send the Oilers to an extended 5-on-3 opportunity!

14:06: Stuart Skinner stamps out a Blue Jackets 3-on-1 chance! Five saves for the Edmonton, AB product in the opening six minutes.

16:48: First kill completed! A big early boost getting through that one right off the hop.

18:48: Edmonton takes an early Too Many Men penalty.

20:00: DROP THE PUCK! Some changes of note to the Oilers forwards as Perlini draws in on the left wing of the third line, along with Lagesson swapping for Niemelanen on the third pairing. Stuart Skinner makes his eighth start of the year!
