THIRD PERIOD

0.0: LA BAMBA. PLAY IT! The Oilers remain top of the West, improving their record to 13-4-0 with a 5-2 victory over the Blackhawks. Broberg gets on the scoresheet with his first NHL assist, while McDavid extends his point streak to 17 games. Draisaitl nets his league-leading 18th goal shorthanded. Edmonton heads out on a three-game road trip beginning Tuesday in Dallas.

3:32: ANOTHER SHORTIE!!! This time it’s Draisaitl, coming in alone on a breakaway and wiring his league-leading 18th goal of the season off the post and past Lankinen. That’s Edmonton’s second SHG of the night after Yamo converted Jones’ giveaway in the first period and third of the ’21-22 season. | EDM 5, CHI 2

6:37: McDavid draws another hook on Jonathan Toews. Fourth Oilers man advantage coming up!

11:00: Ouch. Just as the PP expires, the ‘Hawks get away on an uncontested 2-on-0 that’s converted by Alex DeBrincat off the feed by Kurashev coming out of the box. | EDM 4, CHI 2

13:07: McDavid cuts through the neutral zone and draws a hold from Kurashev. Back to the PP we go, looking to pad the lead.

17:14: Big scuffle behind the Chicago net after Benson takes a few whacks at the puck in the crease.

20:00: The final period is UNDERWAY!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: A lot less goals in that period as we head into the second intermission up 4-1!

4:25: Lankinen makes a monstrous save on Puljujärvi on a 3-on-1 opportunity for the Oilers.

5:35: McLeod unlocks Foegele in the crease with an incredible pass, but he can’t beat Lankinen.

8:19: Kirby Dach goes down in front of the Chicago bench, and Hyman gets called for roughing. Second PP for the ‘Hawks.

14:01: WOW, what a sequence. The Oilers hemmed the Blackhawks in their own zone for nearly four minutes, getting four separate line changes in and working the cycle beautifully. Bouchard had the best chance, taking McDavid’s feed and wiring a one-timer off the crossbar and into the corner. Former Oiler Caleb Jones was forced to take a 4:50 shift.

20:00: Second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: What a period. Chicago gets one late in the opening frame, but goals from McDavid, Barrie, Yamamoto and McLeod have us up by three after 20 minutes. Stuart Skinner looks sharp again, making 16 stops.

19.0: A double deflection sees Chicago get on the board late through Kane. | EDM 4, CHI 1

1:28: NO MERCY!!! Ryan McLeod had all the time in the arena to walk in and go forehand-to-backhand for the second goal of his NHL career after Foegele came around goal and dished it to the centre for the primary assist. Not lost on the scoresheet is Philip Broberg getting his first NHL point with the secondary helper. Congrats, Bro! | EDM 4, CHI 0

9:44: MAKE IT SEVENTEEN GAMES!!! Keep that point streak going!
