THIRD PERIOD

0.0: OILERS WIN! Edmonton battles back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Calgary Flames 4-3 at Rogers Place! Perlini got the offence started, Puljujarvi kept it running then McDavid and Draisaitl did the rest on the powerplay. Koskinen completes the night with 24 saves on 27 shots.

20.0: The Flames pull Markstrom for the 6-on-5 advantage.

3:54: Shots are 35-24 as the Oilers hold onto the one-goal lead late in the third. McDavid has now been credited with the Orange & Blue’s third goal, which was initially awarded to Puljujarvi.

10:21: OILERS TAKE THE LEAD! Draisaitl PUMPS a one-timer to the back of the net as the powerplay strikes for the game-tying and go-ahead goals in quick succession! RNH and McDavid pick up the helpers on this one. | EDM 4, CGY 3

11:16: COMEBACK COMPLETE! McDavid drives to the cage and Puljujarvi deposits the loose change as the Oilers notch three unanswered. The Flames challenge the play for goaltender interference but the goal stands. Puljujarvi now has back-to-back two-goal efforts. Captain McDavid and Nurse get the apples. | EDM 3, CGY 3

13:11: Lucic is whistled for holding. The Oilers get a great chance to knot the equalizer while up a man.

14:09: Koskinen flashes the leather on a shot from outside as Edmonton keeps Calgary’s power-play unit quiet.

16:17: Slater Koekkoek takes down Brad Richardson with a cross-check in the blue paint, signalling a cross-checking penalty against the Oilers.

17:30: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins breaks loose at the defensive blueline for a partial break but sees his quick snapshot gobbled up by Markstrom.

20:00: The puck has dropped for the third period! Edmonton remains down by a goal.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: We got a game! Perlini and Puljujarvi get the engine started offensively as the Oilers look to complete the comeback in the third period. Shots through 40 minutes are 26-19 EDM.

1:22: Kass Attack! The Oilers winger goes 1-on-1 with Markstrom, trying to flip the puck on his backhand but gets stuffed by the goaltender’s right pad.

6:55: POOL PARTY! The Oilers cut the deficit to one as Leon Draisaitl dishes to Jesse Puljujarvi in front for the finish. Keith gets the secondary assist to mark his first (unofficial) point in an Oilers uniform! | CGY 3, EDM 2

8:07: WHO ELSE!? Brendan Perlini deposits the puck from the side of the net to put the Oilers on the board. He now has FIVE pre-season goals. Kyle Turris and Evan Bouchard receive the helpers. | CGY 3, EDM 1 

11:03: Elias Lindholm drops to his knee for a far-side one-timer to put the Flames up by three. | CGY 3, EDM 0

12:45: Puljujarvi tackles ahead on a breakaway and slings a heavy wrist shot at Markstrom, who keeps the opportunity out.

16:50: Markstrom takes care of Nurse’s seeing-eye wrister from the point with relative ease as Andersson’s minor expires.

19:08: Calgary defender Andersson is tagged with an interference penalty. Edmonton goes to the man advantage.

20:00: The second period has begun!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Flames have a strong first period on the road, being spotted a two-goal lead after markers by Tkachuk and Gaudreau. Koskinen ended the frame with 13 saves on 15 shots.

1:15: Gaudreau walks in all alone and rips a wrist shot high glove for the breakaway goal. | CGY 2, EDM 0

5:48: Johnny Gaudreau gets possession of the puck in the Oilers corner and feeds it to Rasmus Andersson for a one-timer but Koskinen pushes out to deny the attempt.

8:41: The Oilers turn the puck over behind the goal-line, allowing Matthew Tkachuk an opportunity in the slot and he makes no mistake to open the scoring. | CGY 1, EDM 0

11:54: Darnell Nurse’s point shot changes directions a few times before it reaches Markstrom but the guardian hangs on for the stop.

14:32: Milan Lucic bats a rebound out of mid-air to beat Koskinen but the Oilers challenge the play for offside and have the goal called back!

17:56: Zach Hyman puts his head down and busts it back to the defensive zone for a great backcheck to upstart the offence the other way. Connor McDavid corrals the puck along the boards, flies up the right wing and sails a backhander just wide.

20:00: Begin the Battle! Duncan Keith makes his Oilers pre-season debut alongside Cody Ceci as the Oilers ice a strong lineup versus their provincial rival. In net, it’s Mikko Koskinen versus Cagary’s Jacob Markstrom!
