2:29: Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett pulls Smith for the extra attacker with under three minutes to play and three goals needed to tie it.
4:50: Jonathan Drouin gets his stick up on Archibald, causing the Oilers winger to leak. Drouin will sit four minutes for the double minor.
4:57: Anderson spins and shoots from out front to score his second goal of the evening. The Oilers challenge the play for goaltender interference but it doesn’t come back. Edmonton goes shorthanded as a result.| MTL 4, EDM 1

0.0: The Oilers remain in a one-goal hole after 40 minutes. Shots are 22-13 MTL. Do the Oilers have any magic left from Monday night?
1:43: Allen coughs it up in his trapezoid, allowing Devin Shore to put a quick backhander on net that hits Allen’s Canadiens logo and stays out.
4:23: Draisaitl sends the puck up top to Bear and he fires a missile that gets caught by Allen. Bear is up to 13:43 of ice time tonight playing alongside Nurse.
8:02: Smith takes care of Jeff Petry’s sizzling slap shot to kill the minor. Shots are 20-9 for Montreal as the Oilers look for the equalizer once again.
10:21: Tyler Toffoli steps on Smith’s blade but the puck-stopper is whistled for tripping. McDavid serves it.
11:37: Joel Armia takes down Puljujärvi and is called for tripping. Edmonton goes to the power play.
12:20: Tomas Tatar walks in and releases a wrist shot from the left circle that Smith grabs.
14:48: McDavid and Russell orchestrate a nice give-and-go but Russell can’t put home a deflection from the crease.
16:40: Josh Anderson drives in from the wing and beats Smith short-side to restore Montreal’s lead. | MTL 2, EDM 1
16:51: THE CAPTAIN! McDavid busts in all alone on a breakaway and flips the puck blocker side on Allen to notch his 25th goal of the year! Caleb Jones gets the lone helper. | EDM 1, MTL 1
20:00: The second period has begun. Zack Kassian will not return to the game after delivering a check early in the first.
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Lehkonen’s late tally puts the Habs up by one going into the middle stanza. Shots after the first are 13-4 Montreal, who also went 63 percent in the faceoff circle. Both teams have administered 21 hits.
28.9: Artturi Lehkonen lifts a backhander over Smith’s glove far side to open the scoring. | MTL 1, EDM 0
3:06: James Neal corrals a Canadiens’ turnover in front of the net but his quick shot is blocked and bounces out.
7:16: Tyson Barrie passes the puck along the blueline to Kris Russell and his heavy slapshot is handled by Allen. Shots are 10-4 MTL midway through the opening frame.
11:46: SCHMIDDY! The keeper absolutely DENIES Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s net-front tip with his right pad. Before that, Jesse Puljujärvi blistered a slapper on net on Allen that the goalie steered aside.
17:05: Ding ding! Alex Chiasson is forced to answer the bell against Corey Perry. This stems from Monday’s game when Chiasson unintentionally brushed netminder Carey Price and forced him out of the game with an injury.
17:06: Things are getting physical already as Josh Archibald is nearly dumped into the Canadiens’ bench after taking a big hit in the neutral zone.
20:00: Round 2 between the Oilers and Canadiens has begun! Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returns to the lineup and Mike Smith is back in net, up against Jake Allen at the other end.
