THIRD PERIOD
0.0: Play Tarzan Boy! Smith posts his 40th career shutout with 38 saves while Khaira, Nurse and Barrie score to power the Oilers to a 3-0 win over the Canadiens! Edmonton ends their four-game road trip with a 3-1-0 record. They’ll be back at it again on Monday against the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Place!
3:00: Smith and the Oilers PK unit do a great job of keeping the Canadiens at bay.
5:49: Evan Bouchard gets in the way of Evans and takes an interference minor. The Oilers go to the kill.
7:32: McDavid dangles in the slot then dishes the puck over to James Neal at the side of the net but his shot is deflected high and wide.
9:51: Jake Evans fires a quick shot from the top of the left circle and Smith snares it. Oilers remain in control with under 10 minutes to play.
15:16: TYSON GOES TOP SHELF! Tyson Barrie goes top shelf with a heavy slapper from the point. His third of the season comes on the power play. Assist goes to Draisaitl and McDavid. Edmonton extends the lead. | EDM 3, MTL 0
15:50: The Oilers fail to convert on the power play. The club will go back to the man advantage after Josh Anderson and William Lagesson get into a scrum in front of Smith. Lagesson gets two for holding and Anderson will serve four minutes for roughing.
19:05: Danault interferes with McDavid and gets whistled for it. The Oilers head back to the PP.
20:00: The third period has begun as the Oilers look to close out the final frame of their four-game trip!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers add another to their lead, taking a two-goal advantage into the 3rd. Shots are 24-22 MTL after 40.
1:57: Smith gets into the butterfly position and holds down the fort on Edmundson’s wrister and Chiarot’s backhander. He has 21 saves this evening.
7:10: Ben Chiarot tangles up with Dominik Kahun and gets called for tripping. Edmonton goes to the power play.
8:49: Edmundson lets another shot fly and this one gets to Smith, who takes it in the crest.
12:08: Joel Edmundson fires a slap shot and it catches Paul Byron up high. The play is whistled down and Byron heads straight to Montreal’s dressing room.

0.0: Khaira’s goal puts the Oilers ahead after the opening 20. In the blue paint, Smith stopped all 11 Canadiens shots he faced, including several heaters from the point.
3:11: The two sides go back-and-forth trading chances but the Oilers get the best of them, with Kyle Turris getting two cracks at the puck in-tight. Shots are 9-6 MTL.
11:33: TAKIN’ KHAIRA BUSINESS! Jujhar Khaira beats Allen’s blocker off the rush to open the scoring! That’s his second goal of the season and fourth point on the Oilers four-game trip. He had a pair of helpers versus Ottawa on Tuesday. Assists go to Josh Archibald and Tyler Ennis. The third line staying 🔥. | EDM 1, MTL 0
12:42: McDavid slices through several Canadiens and gets a shot off on Jake Allen but the goalie keeps it out.
17:26: Smith robs Nick Suzuki with his glove hand as the Canadiens forward breaches on a breakaway.
18:02: The Oilers top line gets inside the offensive zone and gets to work, cycling the puck around and generating a slot one-timer from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins but it zips wide of the cage. The Canadiens are playing their second game in two nights.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun! Jesse Puljujarvi will be out after being added to the COVID-19 protocol list and netminder Dylan Wells will replace Mikko Koskinen as Mike Smith’s backup. Wells was recalled on an emergency basis.
