THIRD PERIOD
0.0: The Canadiens take two in a row against the Oilers, winning Monday’s game by a score of 3-1. Edmonton will head to Toronto for a two-game sequence with the Maple Leafs beginning Wednesday.
2:09: Devin Shore strips the puck from Jonathan Drouin then goes blocker side to put the Oilers on the board. That’s his first goal in Orange & Blue, which comes down a man! | MTL 3, EDM 1
3:21: Whistles keep coming as Nygard now enters the box for holding. Montreal is 1-for-4 on the man advantage tonight.
7:45: Artturi Lehkonen attacks on a 2-on-1 and beats Koskinen glove side shorthanded. | MTL 3, EDM 0
7:58: Suzuki skates off for tripping.
9:01: Koskinen holds down the fort shorthanded, scrambling to keep the puck out despite several Habs digging in.
11:05: The penalty parade continues. Larsson now sits for interference.
11:16: Another power play opportunity goes by as the Oilers are 0-for-6 with seven shots on goal.
15:43: The Oilers get their sixth power play of the night after Weber takes a cross-checking penalty.
16:56: Coach Dave Tippett reunites McDavid and Draisaitl on the top line to begin the period.
20:00: The third period has begun.
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Alex Chiasson rips one off the iron just before the period ends. The Oilers enter the 3rd down 2-0 and being out-shot 23-19.
10.5: Shea Weber banks the puck in off Josh Archibald on the power play to give Montreal a two-goal lead. | MTL 2, EDM 0
2:09: The man advantage is nullified after McDavid is whistled for hooking.
2:49: Gallagher leaps into Nurse, warranting a boarding penalty. Another power play for the Oilers.
4:44: Koskinen facing plenty of action in the 2nd. He gets a glove on Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s wrister then stops Tyler Toffoli from out front. After Koekkoek’s penalty expired, Koskinen snatched Nick Suzuki’s in-close attempt. Shots are 16-1 for MTL in the period.
6:49: The Oilers are shorthanded once again as Slater Koekkoek takes a slashing minor.
10:00: The Orange & Blue escape the penalty kill unscathed. Koskinen makes one big save on a Tomas Tatar one-timer.
12:42: The Oilers don’t capitalize on their fourth man advantage of the evening. Adam Larsson takes a holding penalty as the Canadiens go to the power play.
15:54: Montreal continues to play undisciplined. Romanov now heads to the sin bin for cross-checking.
17:23: The Canadiens throw four shots on goal in the opening few minutes of the middle stanza.
20:00: The second period has begun.
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers get their chances but fail to convert. The club goes 0-for-3 on the power play, win 56 percent of their faceoffs and blocked five shots.
1:00: Montreal kills all three of their minors. Shots are 12-5 Edmonton near the end of the opening period.
3:02: A third straight penalty goes to the Canadiens, this time to Ben Chariot for delay of game.
4:55: Joel Armia is now called for holding, giving the Oilers a two-man advantage for 25 seconds.
6:30: Phillip Danault receives the game’s first penalty, going off for interference.
10:06: Alexander Romanov releases a wrist shot from the point and it beats Koskinen. The assists go to Paul Byron and Brett Kulak as the Canadiens open the scoring. | MTL 1, EDM 0
10:53: Zack Kassian catches Connor McDavid in stride through the neutral zone but the Oilers Captain is offside. The Oilers are doubling up on the Canadiens on the shot clock 6-3 halfway through the frame.
15:51: The Oilers third line of Nygard-Turris-Puljujarvi comes out with some jump as Nygard sifts the puck out front for Puljujarvi but he can’t cram it past Allen.
16:44: Koekkoek puts a point shot on net and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins digs for the rebound but can’t get a stick on it.
17:38: Mikko Koskinen steers aside a shot from Brendan Gallagher. The Oilers have yet to put anything of substance on Jake Allen, filling in for Carey Price in goal for the Habs.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun! Plenty of changes to Edmonton’s lineup in this one. Darnell Nurse pairs up with Slater Koekkoek, Kris Russell will partner with Tyson Barrie and William Lagesson patrols alongside compatriot Adam Larsson. Upfront, Joakim Nygard slides in on the third line with Kyle Turris and Jesse Puljujarvi. Tyler Ennis, Ethan Bear and Caleb Jones are out.
