3:46: Pastrnak splits Smith on a breakaway right after an Oilers 2-on-1. Edmonton gets the lone point tonight to make it 71 on the season. The Orange & Blue host the Minnesota Wild on Friday.

THIRD PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers secure an ever-important single point and can get the extra in the fourth period. Shots after regulation are 29-29.
2:30: Pastrnak gets two for tripping off an Oilers defensive zone draw. HUGE opportunity for the Oilers to get ahead late.
4:24: The Oilers hang on to kill Boston’s condensed power play. Shots are 28-27 BOS.
8:50: Nurse gets pickpocketed to give Coyle a breakaway. The Bruins forward attacks on a breakaway but gets slashed by Nurse to signal a penalty.
10:26: DING DING! Alex Chiasson makes a big hit behind the Bruins’ net then gets trampled by a pair of Boston players. The Oilers end the sequence with a power play – their fifth tonight.
11:11: Pastrnak can’t pull the trigger from the doorstep, causing the Oilers to escape their SIXTH penalty unscathed. Smith has been absolutely stellar with 10 power-play saves and 22 total.
14:35: The Oilers get called for too many men. Another big PK incoming.
16:18: MAN ADVANTAGE MARKER! Bear whips a point shot and Gagner tips it home for his fifth of the year to knot this one up! Bear and Nugent-Hopkins net the helpers. | EDM 1, BOS 1
18:01: Marchand takes out Caleb Jones’ legs and gets two for tripping. Another man advantage to the Oilers, who need the equalizer.
20:00: The third period has begun!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: Gagner is robbed on the rebound late in the frame as the Oilers exit the first 40 minutes down 1-0. Edmonton puts forth a strong effort in the second after a two-shot first period, peppering Rask with 17 shots in the stanza.
5:16: Jake DeBrusk barrels in on a partial break but loses the handle near the net. The Oilers kill another penalty, which makes it five on the evening.
7:45: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is whistled for holding the stick.
9:04: More penalty trouble for the Bruins. This time Bergeron is off for hooking.
9:21: No shortage of chances for the Oilers on the power play, including Yamamoto’s relentless thrashing from the blue paint. Nothing comes of it as the Orange & Blue still trail 1-0.
13:11: Leon Draisaitl waltzes his way to the net for a dangerous scoring attempt but Rask shuts the door. Haas is later tripped up in the neutral zone as Krug heads to the sin bin.
14:25: GRAND LARCENY! Danton Heinen gets the high tip on Charlie McAvoy’s blueline shot-pass but Smith animates his glove hand for the HUGE save. The Oilers are 4-for-4 on the PK tonight thanks to Smith’s play.
16:23: The B’s apply pressure and Adam Larsson hacks at Marchand, guilty of a slashing call. Oilers go back to the kill.
20:00: The second period has begun!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Smith makes a tremendous splits save in-tight to cancel a sure-goal by the Bruins. The net protector ends the frame with 11 saves on 12 shots. At the other end, Gagner’s backhander was the Oilers best opportunity as it dinged the joints and deflected out. Edmonton ends the 1st with just two shots on goal.
3:53: Kailer Yamamoto gets his stick up on Charlie Coyle, cutting the Bruins forward and receiving a double-minor high-sticking penalty. The Oilers power play is negated and the club will have to kill 2:55 of power-play time after 4-on-4 hockey.
4:48: Joakim Nordstrom trips Gaeëtan Haas and gets flagged for it. The Oilers will test out their top-ranked power play (29.5%) now.
6:42: David Pastrnak’s one-timer is tipped out of play and Torey Krug’s slap shot from the point is held by Smith as the Oilers kill Boston’s power play.
9:04: Ethan Bear is called for slashing. Boston’s second-ranked power play (25.9%) gets the game’s first man advantage.
9:29: Matt Grzelcyk tries to go up high on Smith but can’t elevate it over the keeper’s right shoulder.
11:32: Patrice Bergeron dekes out Smith on a breakaway to give the Bruins the lead. | BOS 1, EDM 0
11:51: Sam Gagner lets a nifty backhander fly but it hits the crossbar and bounces out.
14:36: Brad Marchand floats the puck at the Oilers net and hits Darnell Nurse but Mike Smith is awake to get the whistle.
17:49: The Oilers get a bit sloppy in their own zone but avert any danger as Kailer Yamamoto eventually skates the puck out. The home team goes back the other way and Josh Archibald just misses a mid-air bat ahead of B’s netminder Tuukka Rask.
20:00: Tonight’s Hockey is for Everyone game has begun! The Oilers enter the match on a two-game winning streak but with yet another injury to add to their woes as Oscar Klefbom is out for the next 2-3 weeks.
