THIRD PERIOD

0.0: Remember this one, folks. You might never see another one like it. The Oilers claim a deserved two points over the Calgary Flames in a game for the ages that saw 11 goals, 75 shots, and three fights (including a goalie tilt). This has been the Battle of Alberta, thanks for tuning in and don’t miss the highlights from this one!

1:57: HAAS GOES FIVE-HOLE! That’s number-eight on the night for the Oilers with under two minutes to go as the Swiss centre slides it underneath Rittich. Wow. EDM 8, CGY 3

1:57: IT’S A PENALTY SHOT! This game has it all. Gaetan Haas hauled down and he’ll get a free look!

5:26: Too many men on the ice. Calgary.

6:44: GAGNER UNLEASHED! What a shot from Sam I Am, who has all the time to pick the corner from the top of the circle with a powered effort that puts this game out of reach if it wasn’t already. EDM 7, CGY 3

8:43: Sam Bennett and Patrick Russell lock horns and take coincidental minors. Refs not keen to let the rough stuff continue after that second period.

10:25: We’ve gone nearly 10 minutes in this third period and tensions have calmed. Oilers outshooting the Flames 42-22, with Koskinen standing tall in relief.

20:00: Teams swap sides and we’re back to a normal routine. 1:36 of power-play time remaining for the Oilers.

20:24: You don’t often see a 20 minute-and-24-second period, but that’s where we’ll start with the Oilers on a power play. Smith and Talbot have been given game misconducts and been ejected, so Mikko Koskinen takes over for the Oilers in goal. Still 20 minutes to play in this crazy game. Let’s drop the puck!

SECOND PERIOD

24.0: This is pandemonium. This is the Battle of Alberta. Let’s try to lay it all out:

Sam Gagner goes hard into the net and pushed the puck in, but it’s waved off. Talbot takes exception and starts an all-out scuffle around the Flames net that draws Mike Smith to the red line. After Tkachuk and Bear drop the gloves, the netminders are the next to drop him as both goaltenders exchange fists in front of the penalty box.

We’re going to finish the final 24 seconds after the intermission.

2:20: The Oilers have 36 (yes, 36) shots to Calgary’s 18 through almost 38 minutes. Just thought you should know.

4:02: WIRED HOME BY JONESY! The defender unleashes an unstoppable blast from the point that breezes past Talbot to make it SIX for the Blue & Orange in hostile territory. Gaetan Haas and Alex Chiasson are in on the fun with the assists. EDM 6, CGY 3

8:23: NUUUUUUUUGE tucks it home! An assault by the Oilers in the offensive end that began with a 2-on-1 between Draisaitl and Kassian leads to Yamamoto tossing a centering pass to Nugent-Hopkins in front, who bats it into the open cage. EDM 5, CGY 3

9:46: Flames back within one as the puck finds its way in off Smith from the shot on the red line from Elias Lindholm. We got a burn burner on our hands. EDM 4, CGY 3

14:14: Talbot stones his former team twice in quick succession – once on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ breakaway and second later on the cross-ice feed to Riley Sheahan.

15:25: Quick response from the Flames. Matthew Tkachuk goes five-hole off Andrew Mangiapane’s feed from below the goal line. EDM 4, CGY 2

16:42: TWO FOR THE CAPTAIN! Nurse comes out of the box and changes quick, sending Leon and Connor in on a 2-on-1 that the captain takes all the way and wrists far side. That’ll end David Rittich’s night as Cam Talbot takes over in goal for Calgary. EDM 4, CGY 1

18:52: Nurse trips up a Flame. Whoops. Oilers hort for two minutes.

20:00: Middle frame gets going from the ‘Dome.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: That’ll do it for an exciting opening 20 minutes as the Oilers take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

4:05: Jujhar Khaira drops the gloves for a spirited scrap with Robinson. Five for fighting!

4:27: CONNOOOOOOOR MCDAVID! ON. THE. POWER PLAY! McDavid takes up his usual spot atop the left circle, walks in and snipes a far-side wrist shot to restore the Oilers two-goal advantage. That’s the captain’s 28th of the season and Draisaitl picks up his 80th point with a helper. EDM 3, CGY 1

6:17: Hard work in front by Archibald draws a trip from Travis Hamonic. Oilers to the power play!

7:18: Buddy Robinson’s first goal as a Flame cuts the Oilers lead in half. EDM 2, CGY 1

10:40: Yamamoto to the box for holding hands Calgary the first man advantage of the night.

12:00: Puck trickles through Mike Smith’s legs but a last-second touch deflects the puck dangerously through the crease. Dangerous opportunity for the Flames.

13:30: First TV timeout. Phew, take a breather Oil Country.

18:55: TWO-SPOT IN NO TIME AT ALL! This time, it’s Zack Kassian burying Josh Archibald’s feed into the open cage for the 2-0 lead no more than 1:05 into the contest! EDM 2, CGY 0
