SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers get close to adding some insurance to their lead but can’t put one past Allen late. The home team still leads by one to enter the third. Shots are 21-17 EDM.

3:38: More pressure from the Blues prompts save after save from Koskinen. He has 14 tonight as the Oilers lead the shot count by a slim margin at 17-15.

6:25: The Blues continue to press as Robert Thomas storms in and cuts to get a shot off on Koskinen but the ‘tender gets the whistle.

9:03: David Perron slides a backhander in from his knees to cut the deficit in half for the Blues. | EDM 2, STL 1

9:25: Jaden Schwartz zips up ice to create a breakaway for himself but Koskinen shows off his shiny new pads with a big kick stop.

13:53: Oscar Klefbom is directed to the box for hooking. Edmonton goes to the penalty kill for the second time tonight.

14:37: The Oilers fail to get anything set up on the man advantage.

18:10: Riley Sheahan skates through the neutral zone but gets hounded by Carl Gunnarsson, warranting a holding minor. Edmonton gets its first power play of the evening.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers limit the Stanley Cup Champion Blues to three shots on goal in the opening 20, taking a 2-0 lead into the middle stanza. Edmonton’s goals come from Draisaitl and Jones.

2:14: The Oilers top line moves the puck around with some pretty passing but Zack Kassian’s release is kicked aside.

5:21: Ryan O’Reilly feathers a pass across to Alex Pietrangelo but the Blues captain is stymied by the glove of Koskinen.

6:39: Sam Gagner catches the far post after a great keep-in at the blueline by Gaëtan Haas. The Oilers own the shot count 9-2.

7:22: The Oilers persist on the penalty kill, getting in lanes and disrupting cross-ice passes to eventually neutralize St. Louis’ man advantage. After it ends, Draisaitl and McDavid share a give-and-go but the Deutschland Dangler is robbed.

10:49: Darnell Nurse takes Brayden Schenn hard into the boards but gets called for holding. Edmonton goes to the penalty kill first.

14:12: MR JONES! Caleb Jones fires a point shot and it gets through Allen’s wickets. That’s his first goal of the season, with the only apple going to Matt Benning. | EDM 2, STL 0
