1:35: Marchand is fed on the doorstep but Oscar Klefbom makes a tremendous defensive effort to foil the sure goal. Boston’s net is now empty down by two with under two to play.

2:51: The Oilers continue to try to close this one out with under five to play. Smith stops a point-blank attempt by Par Lindholm then later McDavid drops for James Neal in the Bruins’ zone and he tries to muscle his way to the slot without success.

6:07: Smith is ON. The ‘tender steers aside a hotshot from the right wing and the rebound is cleared. Edmonton is getting out-shot 12-5 in the 3rd.

12:21: Smith is battling from the crease. The keeper now has NINE saves in the 3rd alone.

15:58: Ethan Bear gets two for high sticking. Big kill coming up for the Oil.

18:12: THE CAP! Zack Kassian makes a beautiful backhand pass from the boards in the O-zone to give McDavid a break and he places a perfect shot blocker side on Halak for the two-goal lead. | McDavid now has 23 goals on the year and 65 points. | EDM 3, BOS 1

20:00: The third period has begun! Edmonton is 14-1-2 when leading after 40 while the B’s are 4-5-4 when down.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Nurse’s late marker puts the Oilers ahead 2-1 after 40. Shots are 19-15 EDM heading into the third.

6.3: THE DOC! Darnell Nurse throws the puck on net and it gets past Halak short side. Nurse now has three goals on the year and 18 points. | EDM 2, BOS 1

1:50: The Oilers fail to get one on their second power play.

7:57: Nygard draws a holding call against Zdeno Chara. Oilers go to the PP.

9:38: DeBrusk walks up the slot and tries to go low on Smith but he kicks the attempt aside.

10:30: Pastrnak fires a shot from the wall and the puck idles on the top of Smith’s right pad, just barely staying out.

12:19: HE HAAS TO LOVE THAT! Haas picks up Jake DeBrusk’s botched pass and whips it 5-hole on Halak to even things up in the second. That’s Haas’ fourth goal and eighth point of the year. | EDM 1, BOS 1

15:30: McDavid goes to Draisaitl for the high tip and Alex Chiasson whacks at the rebound but Halak shuts the gate.

17:35: Kuraly trips Haas in the Oilers zone. Edmonton goes to the power play because of it.

18:48: Sean Kuraly sends a snapshot at Mike Smith and the guardian holds on with his glove.

20:00: The second period has begun. Boston is 15-3-2 this season when leading after the 1st and the Oilers are 2-10-1 when trailing.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Orange & Blue give up a solo to Pastrnak on the power play but out-shot Boston 9-6 after 20.

1:33: The Oilers get a big kill on the Haas minor. After the penalty expired, Draisaitl made a move in the neutral zone to spring him and McDavid on a 2-on-1. Draisaitl dished it over to the Oilers Captain for a one-timer but Halak dove across for the big splits save.

4:34: Gaëtan Haas gives Brad Marchand a tap and gets called for slashing. The Bruins go back to the man advantage.

11:12: Connor McDavid peddles in from the left side and tries to sneak a slider under Halak but the keeper gets in the butterfly position for the stop.

13:26: Joakim Nygard pushes the puck up to give himself a breakaway but he misses the net on his shot.

16:50: David Pastrnak lets one fly from the top of the circle and the puck gets deflected by Kris Russell’s stick and in. Oilers go down early. | BOS 1, EDM 0

18:03: Leon Draisaitl swifts the puck at the net then Oscar Klefbom dumps a sharp-angle shot on Jaroslav Halak as the Oilers start the game with two quick shots on goal.
