THIRD PERIOD

0.0: The Canucks come back from a 2-1 third period deficit to win 4-2 against the Oilers. The club will get three days of holiday rest before returning to action Friday against the Calgary Flames.

13.8: Eriksson ices this one with an empty netter. 

1:14: Koskinen makes an unbelievable splits save on Jake Virtanen to keep the game within one. Coach Dave Tippett pulls the keeper soon after as the Oilers look for the equalizer at 6-on-5.

3:11: Nugent-Hopkins attacks on a 2-on-1, deciding to keep and shoot but gets stopped by Markstrom.

6:12: Quinn Hughes tees one up from the blueline and it finds its way to the back of the net. The Canucks get the go-ahead tally in the third. | VAN 3, EDM 2

7:17: The Oilers get called for too many men. Vancouver gets a man advantage.

9:08: McDavid loses control of the puck on a rush then later in the sequence misses Chiasson on the doorstep as the Oilers fail to convert on the PP. They are 1-for-2 tonight.

12:07: Pearson gets ahold of Draisaitl and doesn’t let go, meaning he’ll sit for two minutes. Oilers get a great opportunity on the man advantage.

12:53: Kassian gets loose with a quick twirl and puts a backhander on Markstrom but the keeper keeps his paddle down for the stop.

15:48: Bo Horvat appears to score but the puck was directed in with his skate. After video review, the referees deem the goal good. This game is all tied up. | EDM 2, VAN 2

18:27: Tanner Pearson rips a wrister off the crossbar and out.

20:00: The third period has begun!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Troy Stetcher dings the iron as the clock ticks down. The Oilers get the go-ahead marker from Klefbom and take it into the third, leading 2-1. Shots after 40 are deadlocked at 20 apiece.

5:48: Pettersson interferes with Koskinen after a Vancouver shot on net, prompting a large scrum. Patrick Russell and Pettersson each go off for two minutes.

6:00: Zack Kassian’s laser trickles through Markstrom but the rebound is steered away.

8:02: Ding ding! Nurse gets roped up with Roussel and the two decide to dance. Both are on the naughty list and will serve five minutes for fighting.

16:58: SEEING-EYE SWEDE! Oscar Klefbom picks the corner from the point while James Neal provides the traffic in front. Klefbom picks up goal number four on the play while McDavid and Draisaitl get the assists. Oilers are perfect on the power play. | EDM 2, VAN 1

17:45: Antoine Roussel is flagged for interference. Oilers get their first power play.

17:47: Motte gains a stride on Leon Draisaitl, backhanding a shot on net that doesn’t get past Koskinen.

19:29: Riley Sheahan flips the puck to Joakim Nygard in the blue paint and he tries to go forehand-backhand but loses the handle.

20:00: The second period is under way!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Motte puts the Canucks up first but the Oilers reply thanks to Nugent-Hopkins’ tying marker. Shots after 20 are 9-7 Edmonton.

1:45: The goal scorer, Nugent-Hopkins, sends the puck on net as Alex Chiasson fishes for a rebound. He and Oscar Fantenburg proceed to mix it up, showing some early Christmas spirit.

4:20: THE B.C. BOY GETS IT BACK! Ryan Nugent-Hopkins battles through a mess of Canucks then snipes blocker side to notch his seventh. Caleb Jones gets the lone helper. | EDM 1, VAN 1

8:45: Tyler Motte flicks a quick shot off the faceoff and beats Koskinen. Vancouver opens the scoring with Motte’s first of the year. | VAN 1, EDM 0

10:46: Elias Pettersson accepts a pass up the gut then releases a silky wrist shot but Koskinen stymies the sophomore Swede. Gaëtan Haas goes off for slashing, giving the Canucks a power play.

12:04: A rebound pops out to Troy Stetcher inside the right circle but he sends his shot wide of the cage. Shots are 5-3 EDM near the midway mark of the period.

16:11: Loui Eriksson corrals a puck in the slot and quickly fires it at Mikko Koskinen, who makes the glove save.

17:59: Kris Russell snaps the puck at Jacob Markstrom from the half wall and the keeper covers it up.

20:00: Tonight’s game has begun!
