14:20: COMEBACK COMPLETE! McDavid shakes a defender behind the goal-line then centres the puck to Kassian for his SECOND of the evening and 11th of the year! Nygard gets the secondary assist. | EDM 3, CAR 3

18:12: Pesce places his hand over the puck in the crease, rewarding the Oilers a penalty shot. McDavid takes it but loses the handle as he attacks against Reimer.

19:01: McDavid is high-sticked in the neutral zone by Teravainen. The Oilers get 1:22 of 5-on-3 power-play time to work with.

19:39: Jaccob Slavin clears the puck out of play and gets called for delay of game. The Oilers get an early power-play opportunity.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: Kassian gets his 10th to go but the Oilers still trail by a pair. Shots after 40 minutes are 26-25 CAR.

2:06: The Oilers subdue their first penalty of the game, killing RNH’s minor.

4:08: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ stick gets stuck in the hands of a Canes player, warranting a hooking minor against Edmonton.

7:30: Larsson gains some space in the O-zone and whips a quick shot high on Reimer but can’t beat him. Shots are 23-21 Oilers.

12:15: NET-CRASHIN’ KASSIAN! Caleb Jones releases a point shot and Kassian dumps in the rebound to get the Oilers on the board. That’s goal No. 10 for Kassian and Jones’ first point of the year! | CAR 3, EDM 1

14:09: Brett Pesce slaps a knuckler on net and Mikko Koskinen puffs out his chest for the save and whistle.

16:23: The Oilers get dealt some tough luck early in the second. First Adam Larsson’s shot is deflected off the crossbar and out then Nurse did the same thing just a few shifts after.

20:00: The second period has begun.

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: Aho, Niederreiter and Dzingel all find the back of the net in the opening 20. The road team exits the first up 3-0. Oilers lead the shot count 12-10.

3.7: Ryan Dzingel goes far side from the right dot. That’s two power-play goals for CAR on two opportunities. | CAR 3, EDM 0

10.0: Zack Kassian gets two minutes for interference late in the frame.

2:02: Niederreiter tips one in to put Carolina up by a deuce. | CAR 2, EDM 0

3:20: The Oilers get stuck in their zone, allowing the Canes to set up around the perimeter. A whistle finally goes when Darnell Nurse gets called for elbowing.

4:40: The Oilers struggle with the setup on the man advantage, making it two consecutive unsuccessful attempts tonight.

6:45: The Orange & Blue get another crack at the man advantage as Nino Niederreiter goes off for tripping.

8:17: Josh Archibald spins and shoots from the bottom of the left circle but once again, Reimer is there for the save. The visiting net protector has seven saves this period.

11:04: Leon Draisaitl accepts a McDavid pass on his backhand in the slot and fires a shot quickly off his forehand but Reimer makes the stop. The Oilers fail to convert on their first power play of the evening.

13:28: Edmonton gets the game’s first power play due to a Julien Gauthier hooking minor. The Oilers top-ranked man advantage (32.3 percent) goes to work.

15:45: Teuvo Teravainen deflects a point shot to Sebastian Aho at the side of the net for the early go-ahead goal. | CAR 1, EDM 0

19:23: The Oilers top line jumps out with some gusto as Connor McDavid goes to Joakim Nygard on the doorstep but he is foiled by goalie James Reimer.
