0.0: The Oilers overwrite a 2-0 deficit to bag at least a point tonight against the Sabres. Overtime is next.
6:03: Shots in the third are 4-3 BUF but EDM leads overall 25-19.
12:12: SMITHERS! The keeper pushes out to stand up Conor Sheary on his goalmouth backhander. Smith is up to 15 saves tonight.
15:50: Jimmy Vesey attacks on a breakaway but fumbles the puck prior to shooting on Smith.
19:20: McDavid dazzles his way to the net then chips the puck far side on Ullmark only to catch a piece of the joints.
20:00: The third period has begun!

SECOND PERIOD
0.0: A two-goal period puts the Oilers right back into this one with all the momentum to enter the third. Sheahan broke out of his funk with a breakaway tally then Nygard tipped home his second career NHL goal. Smith wasn’t busy but he was perfect in the middle stanza with four saves.
2:29: Persson goes off for hooking. Oilers to be shorthanded for the next two.
4:03: TIE GAME! The second Oilers power-play unit takes the ice and Joakim Nygard deflects Darnell Nurse’s floater to score the equalizer. That’s Nygard’s second of the season with the helpers coming from Nurse and Gaeëtan Haas.
6:03: Khaira is robbed of a gimmie after getting hooked in the crease by Bogosian. The Oilers get an opportunity to knot it up on the power play as a result.
8:04: The Oilers keep up the pressure, with McDavid barreling down and whipping a wrister at Ullmark but the keeper kicks it aside.
11:35: RIP THAT MONKEY OFF HIS BACK! Riley Sheahan strikes for his first goal in an Oilers uniform, splitting Ullmark on the breakaway with a sneaky 5-hole backhander. Joakim Nygard and Darnell Nurse get the helpers as the Oilers look to get some life with the marker. | BUF 2, EDM 1
14:20: Nugent-Hopkins has his twig stolen while screening Ullmark. Zack Bogosian gets two minutes for holding the stick.
16:27: Joel Persson sends a knuckle puck to the net with traffic in front but Ullmark keeps his paddle down to avoid any danger.
17:58: Jujhar Khaira and Zemgus Girgensons collide at Buffalo’s goal-line as the Oilers try to get some zone time early in the second.
20:00: The second period has begun!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: Okposo gets the early go-ahead tally and Johan Larsson adds to it later in the period as BUF skates away from the opening 20 with a 2-0 lead. Shots are 12-10 Sabres.
19.1: The Oilers get their second consecutive kill, suppressing McDavid’s minor.
4:34: McDavid gets his stick tangled up with Jeff Skinner and gets whistled down for hooking.
9:17: Johan Larsson deposits the loose change left ahead of Smith following a Rasmus Asplund redirection. The Sabres go up by a pair midway through the first. | BUF 2, EDM 0
12:18: McDavid goes for an individual dash up ice but can’t get the handle in tight as the Oilers miss on their first power play. Markus Granlund takes a high-sticking penalty to put Edmonton down a man.
14:38: James Neal is dumped in the O-zone by Brandon Montour, putting the Oilers on the man advantage for the first time tonight.
15:52: Marco Scandella throws the puck on net and Kyle Okposo tips it in front of Mike Smith to give the Sabres an early lead. | BUF 1, EDM 0
18:46: Leon Draisaitl goes for the unsuspected backhand wraparound on Linus Ullmark but doesn’t get a good angle off the post, sending the puck skittering across the blue paint and out.
20:00: Zack Kassian and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins get back in the mix for the Oilers while 2015 first- and second-overall selections Connor McDavid and Zack Eichel go head-to-head! Tonight’s game has begun!
