18:35: Jeff Carter heads to the box for tripping Ethan Bear. Oilers look for their third power-play strike on their third attempt.
20:00: The third period is under way!
SECOND PERIOD
0.0: The Oilers don’t get any offence in the second but don’t need any, taking a two-goal advantage into the third period. Koskinen remains spotless with a 23-save effort thus far.
2:43: MIKKO AGAIN! Once again, Koskinen stands up to another quick opportunity by Wagner.
4:39: MIKKO! The keeper robs Austin Wagner of a sure goal by kicking away the forward’s slot one-timer.
8:25: Nygard tries to thread a feed for McDavid at the net but it gets disrupted on the way.
10:32: The game finally gets a whistle as both sides trade instances of pressure without lighting the lamp. Shots are now 19-12 LAK.
18:24: Josh Archibald breaks in on the wing shorthanded and gets a riser off on Quick but the goaltender keeps it out.
20:00: The second period has begun!
FIRST PERIOD
0.0: The Kings give the Oilers two power-play attempts and Edmonton makes them count, scoring on both. Koskinen ends the first period without a blemish, stopping all 18 shots he saw.
1:39: Markus Granlund is whistled for hooking. The Kings get their first power play of the evening.
5:14: POWER-PLAY PERFECTION! McDavid goes to Chiasson on the doorstep and he keeps his blade open for an easy tap-in. That’s the winger’s third goal of the season, as the Oilers go 2-for-2 on the man advantage so far tonight. McDavid and Draisaitl get the helpers. | EDM 2, LAK 0
5:39: Joakim Nygard is hauled down by Sean Walker. The Oilers go back to the power play as Walker goes off for hooking.
5:55: Blake Lizotte dumps Kempe’s rebound in to settle the score at 1-1 but Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett challenges the play for offside and wins the call! This one gets reversed.
8:58: L50N! Leon Draisaitl, the 50-goal scorer from just a season prior, zips the puck on net from the half wall and it catches a deflection off Drew Doughty’s skate to go in. Draisaitl nabs goal No. 19 on the season, tying him with McDavid. Assists go to Alex Chiasson and James Neal. | EDM 1, LAK 0
9:50: Adrian Kempe holds up Kris Russell along the boards to warrant a holding minor. Edmonton, who is 15-for-42 on the power play in the last 14 games and 13-4-1 when they score a PP goal, goes to the man advantage.
10:24: Connor McDavid heads up ice on an individual rush and then tries to dish a pass to James Neal but it gets intercepted ahead of the net.
14:41: Mikko Koskinen gets his first puck touch after straightening his right pad to keep out Alex Iafallo’s tip from the slot.
16:13: The Oilers jump out with some early pressure as the club gets their cycle going down low then kicks the puck up to Joel Persson at the point. He lets a wrist shot fly that Jonathan Quick snatches and covers.
20:00: Tonight’s game has begun!
